his tension. "Hey, what's wrong?"

Julian's smile faltered, and for an instant, I saw a glimmer of truth. "Just work stress," he repeated.

But I knew better. Something was eating away at him.

As we sipped our drinks, Julian's distraction grew. His eyes darted toward the door, as if expecting someone.

"Julian, talk to me," I urged, my voice barely above a whisper.

He hesitated, then spoke in a low tone, "I have a situation... from my past. It's complicated."

My heart skipped a beat. "What kind of situation?"

Julian's eyes locked onto mine, filled with a mixture of fear and longing. "I'll tell you everything soon, Lexi. I promise."

The promise hung between us, fragile and uncertain.

As we parted ways that evening, I couldn't shake off the feeling that Julian was hiding something.

Back in my hotel room, I opened my laptop and began typing.

The cursor blinked, taunting me.
