LEXI

Julian's eyes lingered on mine, his expression a mix of uncertainty and resolve.

"I'll figure it out," he repeated.

But I couldn't shake off the doubt.

"Julian, I need to know," I pressed. "Are you willing to go public with our relationship?"

Julian sighed.

"I don't know, Lexi. My business partners, clients...they're conservative. It could damage my reputation."

I pulled my hands back.

"Is that what matters most to you?"

Julian's face contorted.

"No, Lexi. You matter. But I have to think about the consequences."

Consequences.

Always consequences.

"Julian, I've been patient," I said firmly. "But I won't be your secret forever."

Julian's eyes flashed.

"I understand. I'll make a decision soon."

Soon.

But soon wasn't good enough.

I stood up.

"I need space, Julian."

He nodded.

"I understand."

As Julian left, I felt torn.

Part of me wanted to hold on.

But another part demanded freedom.
