"Just a minute," Julian called out, his voice steady, masking the tension between us. The bathroom door seemed to shrink, confining us in our secret.

"Okay, darling. I'll get you a drink," Sarah replied, her tone unruffled, blissfully unaware of the stolen moments unfolding mere feet away. Julian's eyes met mine, relief flickering like a beacon in the darkness.

"Go grab me a Scotch," he added, his voice laced with a hint of desperation. "I'll meet you back where we were." The words hung in the air, a fragile lifeline to cling to.

Sarah's footsteps receded, leaving us in tense silence. Julian waited, his ear pressed against the door, ensuring her departure. Finally, he turned to me, his gaze burning with urgency.

"We have to be careful," he whispered, his breath dancing across my skin. His lips claimed mine in a passionate kiss, igniting a fire that threatened to consume us both.

"I'll go first," he whispered, breaking away, his voice barely audible. "Make sure it's clear." He slipped out of the bathroom, disappearing into the crowd like a ghost.

I waited, my heart racing, each beat ticking away like a countdown. Five minutes ticked by, an eternity of solitude. I checked my makeup, smoothing my dress, erasing any evidence of our tryst.

Taking a deep breath, I opened the door. The hallway was empty, a welcome respite. I merged with the crowd, scanning for Julian.

He stood across the room, sipping his Scotch, Sarah laughing beside him, oblivious to the secret we shared. Our eyes met, and for an instant, our connection crackled like electricity.

Then I looked away, severing the link, leaving only the faintest hint of a promise.
