JULIAN

I sat on the couch, surrounded by my family, yet my mind wandered to Lexi. My secret. My passion. Six months had passed since our affair began, and the guilt still lingered. But my love for Lexi had grown stronger.

As I played with my kids, my phone buzzed with Lexi's texts. My heart skipped a beat.

"I miss you," I typed, hiding behind the couch cushions.

"My body aches for you," she replied.

I swallowed hard, desire coursing through me. Our virtual trysts were a poor substitute for the real thing.

"Tonight, I'll pretend you're beside me," I wrote.

Sarah called out from the kitchen, "Julian, help with dinner!"

I hesitated, torn between two worlds.

"Coming!" I replied, forcing a smile.

As we sat down for dinner, my phone vibrated under the table. Lexi's messages continued.

"Meet me Tuesday," I texted.

"I'll be there," she promised.

My family chatted around me, oblivious to my inner turmoil.

How long could I sustain this charade? The lies, the secrets, the stolen moments?

After dinner, I helped the kids with their homework, my mind drifting back to Lexi.

"Julian, can you take out the trash?" Sarah asked.

I nodded, using the task as an excuse to step outside.

The night air cleared my head, but my thoughts remained with Lexi.

What was I doing? Risking everything for a love that could never be publicly acknowledged.

But I couldn't help myself. Lexi was my escape, my sanctuary.

As I returned inside, Sarah eyed me suspiciously.

"Everything okay?" she asked.

"Yeah, just tired," I replied.

But Sarah's gaze lingered, and for a moment, I worried she saw right through me.

The evening dragged on, my anxiety building.

Finally, bedtime arrived, and I retreated to my study.

Lexi's texts waited, a lifeline to my secret world.

"I love you," she wrote.

"I love you too," I replied.

But at what cost?
