The atmosphere at Young Avengers HQ had shifted dramatically since the arrival of Isla, the new SHIELD recruit. At first, she seemed like any other team member, eager to fit in and contribute. But Y/n quickly noticed that something was off. Isla had powers similar to hers-though not nearly as controlled or powerful-but what set Isla apart was her subtle ambition. She wasn't just here to be part of the team; she wanted to lead.

Y/n tried not to let it get to her. After all, she had been trained by two of the most powerful witches alive and earned her place as team leader. But it was impossible to ignore how Isla's eyes flick to Peter or how she'd undermine Y/n's authority in subtle, infuriating ways during missions. When it was just the two of them, Isla dropped the friendly act completely.

"You're not as great as everyone thinks," Isla had said in a low voice after one particularly tense training session. "I've seen the way you struggle. You might have gotten here first, but that doesn't mean you deserve to stay."

Y/n gritted her teeth. "I'm not here to compete with you, Isla."

"Of course not," Isla smirked. "You're just scared someone will expose you for the fraud you are."

Y/n clenched her fists, refusing to rise to the bait. She wouldn't let Isla win by getting under her skin, but each interaction left her feeling more isolated and unsure of herself. Peter, meanwhile, seemed oblivious to Isla's games. If anything, he spent more and more time with her, always complimenting her on her progress or laughing at her jokes. It hurt, but Y/n kept it to herself, hoping things would blow over.

But they didn't.

Over the next few weeks, Isla's influence began to grow. She charmed her way into the favor of most of the team, except Billy and Tommy, who remained loyal to Y/n. Even Kate, who had always been a close ally, started to drift. One day, during a mission debrief, Isla interrupted Y/n's assessment with her own opinion, subtly turning the conversation against her.

"I think we need to reconsider our approach," Isla said, her voice full of false humility. "No offense, Y/n, but maybe we'd be better off if someone else took the lead for a while. To see if it improves our strategy."

Y/n stared at her in shock. Isla had never been this direct in front of the others before.

Peter shifted awkwardly in his seat, not meeting Y/n's eyes. "Maybe she's right, Y/n. It wouldn't hurt to try something different."

Y/n felt like she'd been punched in the gut. "You're agreeing with her?"

"It's not about agreeing or disagreeing," Peter said, his tone almost dismissive. "We just need to figure out what's best for the team."

Billy and Tommy exchanged glances but stayed silent, sensing the tension rising.

The vote came a few days later. The team had gathered to discuss the leadership roles, and Y/n could hardly believe it when most of them sided with Isla. Even Peter voted in Isla's favor, though his reluctance was apparent.

"I'm sorry, Y/n," he had said after the meeting. "It's just temporary. We're all under a lot of pressure right now."

Y/n's heart felt like it was breaking. "You chose her, Peter."

"It's not like that," he insisted, but the look in his eyes told her everything she needed to know.

The final straw came later that evening when Y/n confronted Peter in private. She had hoped they could talk it out, but their conversation turned into a heated argument.

"Is this about her?" Y/n demanded, her voice thick with frustration. "Isla has been trying to push me out from the moment she got here, and now she's turning you against me too."
