The familiar smell of the studio hit Y/n the moment she stepped through the doors. She felt a mixture of excitement and nerves. It was surreal to be back on the set of Agatha All Along, the much-anticipated spin-off of WandaVision that she had filmed three years ago. So much had changed since then-her career had taken off, with roles in Wednesday and Scream, but being back here, surrounded by the magic and memories, made her feel a little nostalgic like she was returning to a version of herself she hadn't been in a long time.
Y/n walked past the sets, which still had that comforting mix of familiar and new-old spellbooks, enchanted props, and dark, swirling tapestries filled with hidden symbols. The familiar buzz of production crews filled the space, their movements, and chatter the soundtrack of another busy filming day.
But one person stood out amidst the chaos: Kathryn Hahn. She was near one of the sets, leaning against a prop table and chatting with a few crew members, her trademark laugh ringing out, instantly recognizable. Y/n's heart skipped a beat. It had been three years since they'd last filmed together, and while they had stayed in touch, there was nothing like seeing Kathryn in person again.
Kathryn must have sensed her presence because, as Y/n approached, Kathryn turned around, her eyes lighting up the second she saw her. "Oh my god, look who it is!" she exclaimed, dropping everything and rushing over to Y/n.
Y/n barely had time to react before she was engulfed in one of Kathryn's famous warm hugs, the kind that made everything feel right in the world.
"I cannot believe it!" Kathryn said, pulling back slightly to get a good look at Y/n. "Look at you-you've grown so much! How are you even the same person I worked with three years ago?"
Y/n laughed, her nerves melting away instantly. "It's been a while, huh?"
Kathryn grinned, her hands still resting on Y/n's shoulders. "Way too long. But you're still my kid, no matter how many cool roles you take on. That's never changing."
Y/n smiled, warmth spreading through her chest. Kathryn had always called her "kid" on set, and it was one of those small things that made their bond feel special. Despite all the roles she'd taken on and all the growth she'd experienced, it was comforting to slip back into this dynamic with Kathryn.
They stood there for a few moments, caught in the comfort of their reunion, until Kathryn looped an arm around Y/n's shoulders, pulling her closer. "You nervous about being back?"
Y/n hesitated before nodding. "Yeah. I mean, it's been a while since I played Lily. I'm just worried I won't be able to connect with her like I did before."
Kathryn's face softened. "Y/n, listen to me. You were born to play Lily. That connection is still there-it never left. And you know what? If there's anyone who can bring out the best in that character, it's you. You've grown and done amazing things since WandaVision, which will make Lily even better."
Y/n took a deep breath, nodding. Kathryn always made her feel like she could do anything. The world's weight didn't seem so heavy when she was around. "Thanks, Kathryn. I needed to hear that."
"Anytime, kid," Kathryn replied with a wink. "Now come on, let's sit and catch up. I want to hear everything."
They found a quiet spot near the set, sitting on one of the prop benches. Kathryn leaned back, a wide grin spreading across her face as she teased Y/n about her recent roles. "Astrid Addams, huh? That's wild! I watched the first season on Wednesday and kept thinking, 'Look at my girl, killing it!' I'm so proud of you."
Y/n smiled, feeling a blush rise to her cheeks. "Thanks. It's been a wild ride. But honestly, nothing quite feels the same as playing Lily. There's just something special about this character... about being here."
Kathryn's grin softened, her eyes twinkling. "That's because this place, this character-it's part of you. And you're part of it. We created something magical here, and that's why it feels like home."
The words struck a chord in Y/n's heart. She had grown so much as an actress in the past few years, but returning to play Lily felt like coming home. It was a different kind of magic that went beyond the camera and special effects.
"And how about you?" Y/n asked. "What have you been up to?"
Kathryn waved her hand dismissively, though her smile remained. "Oh, you know, the usual. Movies, shows, mom stuff. My kids are getting so big it's wild. But I've missed this too. I've missed us."
Y/n felt a lump form in her throat. Kathryn had been more than just a co-star-she had been a mentor, a friend, almost like family. "Same. It feels like everything's different now, but being here with you... it feels the same. Like no time has passed."
Kathryn reached over, squeezing Y/n's hand. "That's because some things never change, kid. We're still us."
As they sat there, reminiscing and catching up, Y/n felt overwhelming gratitude. She had missed this: the laughter, the heart-to-hearts, the deep connection that went beyond the script. She had missed Kathryn more than she realized.
When it was finally time to get on set, Y/n still felt a flicker of nerves, but Kathryn's unwavering presence tempered them. The moment she stepped into the costume for Lily, something clicked. She looked over at Kathryn, who was in full Agatha mode and smiled.
Kathryn winked at her, mouthing, "You've got this."
And with that, they again slipped seamlessly back into character, mother and daughter. The cameras rolled, and the scene unfolded effortlessly, their on-screen chemistry as strong as ever. It was like they had never left like the magic of WandaVision had simply been waiting for them to return.
After the scene wrapped, Y/n walked over to Kathryn, her heart still racing from the thrill of the performance. Kathryn grinned at her like a proud mom, pulling her into a side hug.
"See? Told you. You've still got it," Kathryn said, her voice filled with warmth.
Y/n chuckled, feeling the weight of her nerves lift entirely. "I guess I just needed a little reminder."
Kathryn leaned in closer, her voice soft but playful. "And don't worry-I'll always be here to give you that reminder. Whenever you need it."
As they walked off set together, arm in arm, Y/n felt a deep contentment. She had been nervous about returning, about reprising a role that had meant so much to her, but being with Kathryn made everything feel right. This was her home-both on set and in the heart of the woman who had been her second mother.
As they laughed together, reminiscing about old times and looking forward to what was next, Y/n knew that no matter where her career took her, Kathryn would always be a part of her journey. They were more than just co-stars-they were family.
