It was one of those perfectly chilly autumn days, the kind where the air is cool enough to warrant a warm coffee but not so cold that you want to rush inside. Y/n had been feeling the weight of the long shooting schedule for Agatha All Along and was grateful for this small break. She stood in line at a quaint little coffee shop with Aubrey Plaza by her side, both of them having slipped away from set for a moment of quiet-and caffeine.

The day had started early with hours of filming, and the set had been bustling with activity, Kathryn Hahn's infectious energy and Joe Locke's constant jokes keeping everyone on their toes. Now, though, it was just Y/n and Aubrey, enjoying a bit of peace.

"I need this coffee like I need air," Y/n muttered, rubbing her hands together for warmth.

"Same," Aubrey replied, her signature deadpan delivery somehow making the simple word sound like an existential truth. "If we don't get it soon, I'm going to start improvising magic powers and lighting things on fire."

Y/n laughed, picturing Aubrey dramatically flicking her wrist and sending sparks flying in the middle of the coffee shop. "That would definitely attract some attention."

Just as she said that, attention did indeed find them-but not for Aubrey's imaginary pyrotechnics. Out of the corner of her eye, Y/n noticed a young woman, probably in her mid-twenties, hesitantly approaching them. The woman's excitement was evident in her wide-eyed expression, and Y/n braced herself for the usual fan interaction. She'd been recognized many times before, but each encounter was different. Some fans were calm, some were overly enthusiastic, and some were just plain awkward. Y/n had learned to handle it all with grace.

But nothing could have prepared her for what happened next.

The fan stopped in front of Y/n, her gaze flicking between her and Aubrey before she settled her eyes back on Y/n with a delighted smile. "Oh my god, your cosplay is incredible! You look just like Y/n Rose!"

Y/n blinked. Wait... what?

She glanced at Aubrey, who immediately raised an eyebrow, clearly trying not to lose it. Y/n quickly turned back to the fan, trying to process what was happening. The fan thought she was cosplaying as herself. It was so absurd that Y/n had to fight the urge to burst out laughing on the spot. Instead, she smiled, already deciding to play along.

"Thank you so much!" Y/n said, her tone chipper. "I really put a lot of effort into it."

The fan's face lit up even more. "You nailed it! I mean, the hair, the makeup-it's so spot-on. Honestly, one of the best Y/n Rose cosplays I've ever seen."

From beside her, Y/n heard the faintest snort from Aubrey, who was pretending to study the menu with exaggerated focus. Y/n bit down on her lip, trying not to crack up as she kept the conversation going.

"Wow, that's such a compliment," Y/n said, nodding along. "I wasn't sure if it would come out right, but I'm glad you think so."

The fan eagerly fished out her phone. "Do you mind if we take a picture? I have to show my friends-they're going to freak out when they see this!"

"Of course!" Y/n agreed, stepping closer to pose for the selfie.

Aubrey, still watching with quiet amusement, shifted slightly to give the fan space for her photo op. Y/n threw up a peace sign, striking her best "Y/n Rose" pose, the kind she often reserved for press interviews and photo shoots. The fan snapped the picture, beaming as she looked down at her phone to admire the result.

"This is so cool," the fan said, completely unaware of the irony of the situation. "You seriously look just like her. Thanks again!"

Y/n grinned. "No problem! Glad you like the cosplay."

With one final wave, the fan bounced away, her attention still glued to her phone, likely posting the picture with an excited caption about meeting the world's greatest Y/n Rose cosplayer. Y/n waited until the woman was out of earshot before she finally let out the laughter she had been holding in for what felt like an eternity.

"Oh my god," she wheezed, leaning against the counter for support as she tried to catch her breath. "Did that just happen?"

Aubrey, her deadpan mask still mostly intact, nodded slowly. "That did just happen. You have officially reached the pinnacle of fame. You're so famous that people don't believe you're real anymore."

Y/n was practically doubled over at this point. "I was just thinking-'Oh, maybe she wants an autograph'-but nope! She thinks I'm cosplaying as me. I didn't even know what to say!"

Aubrey chuckled, finally allowing herself to laugh along with Y/n. "I'm surprised you managed to keep it together. I was two seconds away from ruining the whole thing."

They gathered their coffees, still giggling under their breaths as they made their way back to the set. The walk back was filled with playful banter, each of them replaying the encounter in their heads and laughing all over again. By the time they arrived, they were both still grinning like idiots.

Inside the trailers, the cast was scattered, with Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, and Patti LuPone gathered around a table, their scripts open in front of them. Joe was in the middle of cracking a joke when he spotted Y/n and Aubrey entering, both still clearly riding the high of their bizarre fan interaction.

"What's with the giggles?" Joe asked, raising an eyebrow as he looked between the two actresses. "Did something happen?"

Y/n and Aubrey exchanged a glance, both of them trying not to lose it all over again. Aubrey gave a slight nod, silently encouraging Y/n to explain.

Y/n took a deep breath. "Okay, so we're at the coffee shop, right? And this fan comes up to me and says-get this-'You look just like Y/n Rose! That's an amazing cosplay.'"

There was a brief pause before Kathryn burst into laughter, the sound of it infectious as the rest of the cast quickly joined in. Joe's mouth dropped open in disbelief.

"No way," he said, shaking his head, but laughing nonetheless. "That's wild."

"I know!" Y/n exclaimed. "I even took a picture with her. She has no idea she met the real me!"

Kathryn wiped a tear from the corner of her eye. "That's honestly the best thing I've heard all day. I can't believe she didn't recognize you."

Aubrey, ever the comedic genius, deadpanned, "It's because her cosplay was so convincing."

Joe leaned back in his chair, grinning. "You've got to give her credit for dedication. Not everyone can pull off the perfect 'Y/n Rose.'"

Y/n groaned, though she was still smiling. "Oh, great. Now I'm going to have to explain to my fans why there's a picture of me circulating that looks like I'm dressed as myself."

Patti LuPone, who had been listening quietly until now, chimed in with a mischievous grin. "You could lean into it. Start going to conventions as your own doppelgänger."

The whole cast erupted in laughter again, the absurdity of the situation making it all the more hilarious. Y/n shook her head, still in disbelief that this was her life now-famous enough that people didn't always believe it was really her.

As the laughter eventually died down, Y/n sat back in her chair, smiling to herself. It was moments like this-these random, funny encounters-that made the surreal nature of her career feel grounded. Surrounded by friends, sharing a laugh, she couldn't help but feel grateful for the journey that had brought her here.

She took a sip of her coffee, feeling the warmth of it spread through her, and sighed contentedly. Fame was weird, sure, but as long as she had moments like these-moments of genuine connection, ridiculous stories, and laughter-she could handle the absurdity of it all.
