The faint, rhythmic hum of machines echoed through the dark corridors of the Hydra facility. Fluorescent lights flickered above, casting eerie shadows on the cold, steel walls. Y/n sat huddled in the corner of her cell, her back pressed against the cold concrete. Her breaths came out shaky, shallow, barely audible over the sounds of distant machinery and occasional shouts of Hydra agents. She clenched her fists, feeling the familiar tingling beneath her skin-the same energy she had tried so hard to keep at bay. The fear of losing control gripped her tighter than the chains that had once bound her.
Suddenly, an explosion rocked the building, sending dust and debris from the ceiling. Y/n flinched, her eyes widening in terror. They were coming. She didn't know who or what was coming, but she braced herself for the worst. Hydra had promised they'd go for her, whether it was for another round of torturous experiments or something worse.
The heavy door to her cell rattled, the lock sparking with an unnatural red glow before it was flung open with a loud screech. Y/n scrambled further back into the corner, her heart pounding as she stared at the doorway. Two figures appeared, silhouetted against the bright hallway light.
"Clear," a woman's voice called, her tone calm but commanding.
Y/n squinted, her eyes adjusting to the light. The first woman stepped inside, her hands crackling with red energy that sparked and fizzled, lighting up her sharp features. Her auburn hair was tousled from battle, and her expression, though focused, softened when she spotted Y/n.
The second woman entered, her presence colder, more calculating. Her pale blue eyes swept the room before settling on Y/n, observing her with quiet intensity. Dressed in flowing dark robes that contrasted with her partner's practical attire, she radiated an aura of immense power.
The red-headed woman crouched down, her hands still glowing but lowered now. The energy dissipated into a soft shimmer around her fingers.
"Hey," she said gently. "It's okay. We're not here to hurt you. I'm Wanda."
Y/n stared at her, unmoving. She had heard it all before. People who promised help but only brought more pain. Her voice trembled as she spoke, barely a whisper. "How do I know you're not lying?"
Wanda's eyes softened with sympathy. She took a cautious step closer, kneeling to be on Y/n's level. "I know what they've done to you. I know you're scared. But you don't have to stay here anymore. We're going to get you out."
Y/n's eyes darted between Wanda and the second woman, the one with icy eyes who stood silently in the background, arms crossed, watching. "Who... who are you?" Y/n asked, her voice trembling.
The second woman smirked slightly, her lips curling in a wry expression. "Agatha," she said, her voice as calm as her gaze. "Trust me, if we wanted to hurt you, we wouldn't waste time talking."
Wanda shot Agatha a look, her brow furrowing. "Not helping," she muttered before returning to Y/n. "What Agatha means," she said, her voice softer, "is that we're here to help you. You've been through enough."
Y/n didn't move. She wasn't sure she could trust these people, but something about Wanda's tone-how she spoke like she understood the fear that knotted itself in Y/n's chest-made her hesitate. Her gaze flickered to the red energy still shimmering faintly around Wanda's hands, and something clicked in her mind.
"You... you're like me," Y/n whispered, her eyes widening. She could feel it-the energy swirling inside her. The same kind that Wanda controlled so effortlessly.
Wanda nodded slowly, sensing Y/n's recognition. "I am," she admitted. "I know what it's like to be afraid of your power, not to understand it. But I can help you."
For a long moment, Y/n just stared, her heart pounding echoing in her ears. She had been hurt so many times, betrayed by promises of safety. But there was something in Wanda's eyes that spoke of a more profound truth-a shared pain.
Wanda extended her hand toward Y/n, leaving the choice up to her. "Come with us. I'll keep you safe."
Y/n stared at Wanda's outstretched hand, then glanced at Agatha, who was still watching her with cool detachment, though her eyes held a flicker of interest. She hesitated for a moment longer before slowly reaching out to place her trembling hand in Wanda's. The moment their hands touched, warmth spread through Y/n, and the knot in her chest loosened.
Wanda's fingers gently curled around Y/n's hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "You're safe now," she whispered.
Agatha pushed off from where she was leaning against the wall, her expression still unreadable, but she gave a slight nod. "We've got to move. The others won't hold off the Hydra goons forever."
Wanda helped Y/n to her feet, wrapping an arm around the young girl's shoulders. "Let's go," she said softly, guiding Y/n out of the cell. As they stepped into the hallway, Y/n cringed at the sight of bodies strewn across the floor-Hydra agents who had tried to stop them. Wanda noticed her unease and gave her shoulder a comforting squeeze. "It's over now."
The journey through the facility felt like a blur. Y/n kept close to Wanda, barely able to comprehend what was happening. Her mind raced with questions, but her body was too tired to keep up. When they reached the Quinjet, parked just outside the compound, Y/n was trembling from exhaustion and shock.
"Are you okay?" Wanda asked as they boarded the jet, helping Y/n into one of the seats.
Y/n nodded numbly, though her eyes kept darting around the jet, still wary of her surroundings. She had never felt truly safe before and wasn't sure what that even felt like.
Agatha, meanwhile, stood near the cockpit, her eyes lingering on Y/n as if assessing her. She could sense something in the girl, a raw, untapped potential that intrigued her. She hadn't said much since the rescue but hadn't needed to. Agatha preferred observing from the sidelines and gathering information before making her move.
Once they were in the air, Wanda draped a blanket over Y/n's shoulders, her gentle and careful movements as if Y/n might break at the slightest touch. "Rest," Wanda said softly, sitting down beside her. "You're safe with us."
Y/n's eyes fluttered closed, the adrenaline finally wearing off, leaving her utterly drained. She leaned into the seat, her body relaxing for the first time in years.
Agatha, watching from across the cabin, allowed herself a small smile. She wasn't one to get involved in emotional matters-she left that to Wanda-but something about this girl intrigued her. She could feel the magic swirling within Y/n, wild and dangerous but full of potential.
"She's strong," Agatha said quietly to Wanda once Y/n had fallen asleep. "Stronger than she knows."
Wanda glanced at Agatha, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "I felt it, too. But she's more than just her power, Agatha."
Agatha's gaze lingered on Y/n for a moment longer before she nodded. "Perhaps. But she'll need guidance. The kind only we can give her."
Wanda didn't argue. She had felt the same protective instinct when she laid eyes on Y/n. Something about her reminded Wanda of herself at that age-lost, scared, unsure of the world. And in that moment, Wanda made a silent vow: she would protect this girl, no matter what.
As the Quinjet soared through the night sky, Y/n slept, unaware of the new life that awaited her. She didn't know it yet but had found something far more precious than freedom. She had found a family.
