It had been nearly six months since Y/n was rescued from Hydra, and in that time, her life had changed in ways she never thought possible. She was free and no longer confined to a cell, fearing the experiments that had warped her powers. And she had Wanda and Agatha to thank for that. They were patient and understanding, and most importantly, they didn't look at her like she was broken.
The Avengers Compound had become her new home, and as the days turned into weeks, Y/n found herself slowly adjusting to her new reality. But with that new reality came new challenges-precisely, the challenge of mastering the chaotic magic that surged inside her.
Wanda and Agatha had taken it upon themselves to teach her. It wasn't easy, but with each lesson, Y/n could feel herself growing more robust. Her powers were no longer something to fear. They were something to be understood, something to control.
One afternoon, Y/n again found herself in the training room with Wanda and Agatha. The room was empty, save for a few training dummies scattered along the walls. It was the same place where she had first summoned her magic under Wanda's careful guidance. Now, she was facing a new test.
"Alright," Agatha said, pacing in front of Y/n with her usual calm authority. "Today, we're going to push you a little further. You've learned how to summon your magic. Now, we'll see if you can direct it."
Y/n nodded, her nerves bubbling up. "I'll try," she said, clenching and unclenching her fists, her eyes flickering to the glowing energy she could feel beneath her skin.
"You won't just try. You'll do it," Agatha said, her voice firm but not unkind. "Remember, kid, magic is about willpower. You control the magic; don't let it control you."
Y/n swallowed, feeling Wanda's reassuring presence beside her. Wanda gave her a small, encouraging smile, which helped ease the tension in her shoulders.
"You've got this, Y/n," Wanda said softly. "Just focus."
Y/n closed her eyes, drawing in a slow breath. The hum of her magic stirred inside her, a warm pulse beneath her skin. She raised her hand, feeling the energy respond as she guided it outward. When she opened her eyes, a swirling orb of dark pink magic hovered above her palm, shimmering with raw power.
"Good," Agatha said, watching closely. "Now, direct it. Hit the target."
Y/n turned her focus to the target at the room's far end. Her mind raced-could she do this? Could she control it enough to strike with precision? The Hydra scientists had never taught her control. They only wanted power, raw and unrefined. But Wanda and Agatha were different. They believed in her.
Y/n extended her hand, willing the magic to obey her command. The orb shot forward faster than she expected, but just before it hit the target, it veered off course, slamming into the wall with a loud crack. She winced, the sudden burst of energy surprising her.
Agatha sighed but didn't seem angry. "Close, but not quite. You lost focus at the last second."
Y/n's shoulders slumped. "I'm sorry," she muttered, feeling the familiar sting of failure.
Wanda stepped forward, placing a gentle hand on her arm. "Don't apologize. You're learning, Y/n. That was progress."
Agatha nodded in agreement, though her approach was more direct. "The key is focus. You're letting your fear of losing control take over. You have to trust yourself."
"I don't know if I can," Y/n admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "What if I hurt someone? What if..."
"You won't," Wanda cut in, her tone firm but kind. "We won't let that happen. And more importantly, you won't let that happen."
Y/n looked between the two women, who had taken her in when she felt lost and broken. They had more faith in her than she had in herself. For a moment, she hesitated, but then she nodded. She had to try again.
"Okay," Y/n said, determination flaring in her chest. "I'll try again."
Agatha raised an eyebrow, the corner of her mouth lifting in approval. "That's more like it."
Y/n focused again, the swirling orb of magic forming in her hand more quickly this time. She directed her gaze at the target, breathing deeply to calm her racing heart. The orb hovered momentarily before she sent it forward with a precise flick of her wrist.
The magic struck the target dead center this time, sending a satisfying shockwave rippling through the air.
Wanda grinned. "You did it!"
Y/n's eyes widened, disbelief washing over her as she stared at the smoldering remains of the target. She had done it. She had controlled the magic. For the first time, she didn't feel like it was something dangerous or terrifying. It was hers.
"Not bad," Agatha said with a smirk, clearly impressed. "See? I told you, it's all about control."
Y/n let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding, a smile tugging at her lips. "I... I did it," she said, her voice filled with wonder.
"You did," Wanda confirmed, wrapping an arm around Y/n's shoulders in a rare display of affection. "I'm proud of you."
Y/n's heart swelled at Wanda's words, and she allowed herself to bask in the feeling of accomplishment. She felt like she was on the right path for the first time in a long time.
Later that evening, Y/n sat with Wanda and Agatha in the living area of the compound, and the tension of the day's training finally started to ease. Agatha had a book in her lap, flipping through pages casually, while Wanda sipped tea beside Y/n.
"You're getting stronger," Wanda commented, breaking the comfortable silence.
Y/n shrugged, though she couldn't help but smile. "I'm just trying to keep up with the two of you."
Agatha snorted. "Oh, please. You've got more power than you realize, kid. You need to learn how to harness it."
Y/n glanced at the two women, her mentors, and something clicked in her chest. It wasn't just about power. It was about trust, about the bond they were building. In the six months since she had been rescued, Wanda and Agatha had become more than just her teachers. They were her protectors, her guides-her family.
"Thank you," Y/n said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Agatha raised an eyebrow, glancing over her book. "For what?"
"For... everything," Y/n replied, her heart swelling with gratitude. "For believing in me. For giving me a chance."
Wanda smiled softly, her eyes warm. "You don't have to thank us, Y/n. We're here for you. Always."
Y/n looked between them, a sense of peace settling over her. She still had a long way to go-there were still parts of her past she wasn't ready to face, still powers she hadn't fully mastered-but for the first time in her life, she felt like she wasn't alone.
She had found her place. And she wasn't going to let it go.
