It was one of those days where everything felt painfully slow. The air in the auditorium was thick with boredom as the principal droned on about yet another set of rules no one cared about. Izuko was barely paying attention, doodling in the corner of her notebook and sneaking glances at Sarah, who was equally uninterested, her head resting lazily in her hand.
"...and finally, we have some big news for all of you."
The principal's monotone voice caught everyone's attention, if only because it meant something might actually be interesting. Nya, sitting a row behind, raised an eyebrow. "Big news? Bet it's some lame announcement about the cafeteria changing its menu again," she whispered to Avy.
Avy rolled her eyes. "If they serve one more mystery meat dish, I swear..."
But then, the words they never expected to hear dropped like a bomb.
"We're pleased to inform you that the school will now be offering dorms for students. Starting next month, those interested can apply."
For a moment, there was silence. No one seemed to know what to do with the information. Then, like a slow-building wave, the excitement began to bubble up. The auditorium erupted into whispers, gasps, and wide-eyed looks.
Izuko's eyes shot wide open. Dorms?! Her heart raced. This was huge. She glanced over at Sarah, whose usual calm demeanor had been replaced with a raised eyebrow and a smirk.
"This just got interesting," Sarah muttered.
Izuko's POV
As soon as the principal dismissed them, Izuko felt her phone buzz in her pocket. A group chat explosion had begun. Nya was already texting like crazy.
Nya: "DID U HEAR THAT?! WE'RE GETTING DORMS!! OMGGG"
Avy: "DOES THIS MEAN SLEEPOVERS 24/7???"
Mia: "Guys, we gotta ask our parents first, chill 😅"
The excitement went around for the whole day and when school finally ended...
Izuko was already mentally preparing herself for that conversation with her parents. She knew they were a little overprotective. Taking a deep breath, she dialed her mom's number. The phone rang twice before her mom's voice came through.
"Hi, sweetheart! How's your day?"
"Hey, mom. Uh, so, there's this thing at school..."
A pause. "What kind of 'thing'?"
"Uh... they're offering dorm rooms. Like, we could live on campus."
Her mom's voice immediately tightened. "Dorms? Are you sure that's safe? I mean, who would be responsible if something happened? What about your studies? Wouldn't it be distracting?"
Here we go... Izuko groaned internally. "Mom, it's totally fine. I promise! They'll have supervision and all that."
"And who would you be staying with? Your friends?" Her mom's tone was skeptical.
"Yes, my friends. It's not like I'm asking to stay with random strangers."
There was silence on the other end. "I'll talk to your father about it."
Izuko sighed. "Thanks, mom."
Sarah's POV
While Izuko was stressing, Sarah had already shot a text to her mom after the assembly, keeping it simple.
