He should have known it would happen. You can take the girl out of the country; but you can't take the country out of the girl. (Y/n) had been born to the open countryside, rolling hills and clean air. To being surrounded by all manner of animals; especially her horses. And even though he could not give her the world that she had been brought up in, he could give her something that reminded her of it. Alfie happy to do anything to see the smile come back to her face.

He had known when he met her, that it would be wrong to keep her caged up in the dark, smog filled city. She was a free, beautiful bird that should be allowed to fly; but he was selfish, he had wanted her; God, he wanted her, and he had used every ounce of charm to get her to agree to be his. (Y/n) never once saying that she regretted marrying him, regretted having to live in London; but he could see that a little of the light had left her eyes, that her smile wasn't as big as it used to be; and he knew that it would take something a little more than having Cyril and a few trips to Margate to bring it back. So, he had done what he had had to do.............

"I said a fuckin horse, not a fuckin woolly mammoth, mate........." Alfie said, as he and (Y/n) walked arm in arm into the yard and saw the beast and the man next to him.

"Alfie, what............?"

"Ya were upset. Ya didn't say it, but I could see it; and as ya husband it is my job ta make ya smile again, innit......." Alfie replied, his hand brushing over his beard his eyes looking between his wife and the mountain of horse flesh in front of them.

"So......I bought ya a horse.........well, it was supposed ta be a fuckin horse. Not whatever this is.........." He continued, as he glared at the trader.

"He.......he's mine...........?" (Y/n) asked, before pulling her arm from Alfie's and making her way over to the dappled grey horse.

"Aye, but it..........."

"Oh Alfie..........." She squealed, running back to him and peppering his face with kisses, before making her way back to the horse. The baker giving the horse trader yet another glare as he grinned at the fact that big, bad Alfie Solomons was in fact just a soft teddy bear, when it came to his wife. A fact that the gangster didn't want spread around.

"If ya don't like him......I mean look at it. It ain't an horse, it's a tank on four legs............"

"Don't you dare be cruel to him, Alfred Solomons. This is exactly how he should be. He is a Belgian draft horse and they are meant to be big, beautiful and gentle, and I love him.........just like someone else I know........" (Y/n) countered, as she smiled at Alfie. The man from Camden Town, sniffing, before straightening himself. Alfie sure that his wife was the only one that could do this to him; could make him look weak, while making him feel stronger, braver and better, than he had ever felt before.

"Does he have a name...........?" The dealer shaking his head at her question.

"Not yet. He's still only a young un. And I though........."

"Ya mean tha bastards gonna get bigger......? Fuckin hell.........."

"ALFIE!" It (Y/n)'s turn to glare at her husband.

"Luv, it's a fuckin monster. I wanted ta get ya a horse, not a........."

"You have, and I love him. I am going to call him...........Goliath. I think it suits him." (Y/n) announced proudly, patting the horse on the nose. The gentle giant nudging her slightly, causing her to giggle.

"See, he likes it............."

"Yeah, very bleedin biblical..........." Alfie replied under his breath. Silently promising that if this giant hurt (Y/n), then it wouldn't be only the Goliath from the bible that would be getting something right to the middle of the forehead. His eyes growing wide, as his wife suddenly took hold of the mane of the beast and pulled herself up on to its back. The Londoner rushing over, holding out his arms like she might fall.

"What tha fuckin............?"

"You bought me a horse, so I am going to ride him. My parents had me on the saddle with them, before I could walk. Now, come on.........." (Y/n) countered, holding out her hand for him to take.

"What........? I ain't getting up on that thing..........."

"Are you scared...........?"

"Scared? I ain't fuckin scared of anything. Especially not a walkin can a dog food.........."

"Don't you dare say that.........." (Y/n) retorted, as she leant over and covered the draft horse's ears.

"And if the word 'g.l.u.e' leaves your lips, you will be sleeping on the sofa for a week, Alfred Solomons." She continued. Alfie rolling his eyes and wishing that he had never thought of all this. Yet as her frown turned into a large smile and his heart skipped a beat, he knew that it was all worth it. Even if the horse was still fucking huge.

"If you aren't scared, then prove it. Surely the King of Camden Town should survey his kingdom from the back of such a horse........" She continued, once more holding out her hand. Alfie taking it, before bringing it to his lips and kissing it.

"Nah, luv. This king's got more bleedin sense; but he is happy ta take his queen ta survey the kingdom......." He told her. Pushing his cane into the horse trader's hands, before taking the reins from him. Alfie sure that he and the man would still be having words about this, when they got back; but for now, as he, (Y/n) and Goliath made their way through the streets of town, everyone stopping and looking at them, his chest puffed out with pride, Alfie knew it was all worth it to once more see that real smile on his wife's face. That his queen deserved everything he could give her, even if it was her very own Goliath.
