"Arfur............" A voice said, far too cheerily, as the oldest Shelby made his way into his brother's office. Arthur stopping in his tracks, as he saw the grinning man in front of him. He had realised that a guest had arrived; but given he was still nursing a hard on after almost being able to sheath himself in the woman that he loved, he hadn't really given a shit; just presuming that it was one of the boys, or maybe their uncle Charlie. But never had he thought it would be Alfie fucking Solomons. Arthur's fists clenching and unclenching as he looked at the man from Camden Town. The man that he still hadn't forgiven for setting him up; hadn't forgiven him for shooting Billy Kitchen in the head and then holding him, before the coppers turned up to drag him away for a murder that he had not committed.
"What tha fuck is he doin here.........?" Arthur demanded to know; not caring if his voice could be heard through the entire house, as he looked between his brother and the Jewish gangster. The oldest Shelby glad that during their time in the capital, their business had been nothing to do with the man in front of him.
"Its just a bit of business, Arthur. Something we have ta fix.........."
"Fuck, fuckin business. I don't want this bastard anywhere near this fuckin family. Tha fuckin kids are here, Tommy. She's here. Ya think I want him anywhere near her............"
"Her.......? Now, ya wouldn't mean a certain school teacher, would ya? I heard, yeah, that she was a pretty little thing. Too fuckin good fa tha likes a you, ya pikey prick........." Alfie interrupted. His words and the continued smile on his lips, making the anger inside Arthur, grow to a point where he could think of nothing else but smashing Alfie's face in. And the fact that he knew about (Y/n), that he had spoken about her, made him also want to rip the Londoner's tongue from his head. Tommy quickly stepping between his brother and Alfie; holding on to him as best he could until a voice cut through the chaos.
"Arthur..........?!"
>>-------------------------------------<<
(Y/n) looked up, as she heard Arthur's voice, and it was obvious that he was not happy. The former teacher getting to her feet and making her way to the door of the room, where she and the children had been speaking about what might happen after Santa Claus had made his visit, that night.
Since she had had to leave Arthur, the children had been keeping her busy; a little part of her grateful for their constant questions and their desire for attention, it stopping her from driving herself mad, with the thoughts of what once again, could have been between her and Arthur. Stopping her from thinking about his promise of them being together that night. But now, their continuous chatter could no longer distract her. Her stomach clenching, as she heard Arthur continue to shout.
A part of her told her to just stay with the children. That whatever was going on, was something to do with the Shelby's business. Business that was nothing to do with her. But the tone of Arthur's voice, the pain in it.......she had to do something.
"(Y/n).........?" (Y/n) turning to see Charles and the others, looking up at her.
"Its alright. You all stay here, and I will be back with you in a moment. I just need to go and find your Uncle Arthur.........." She told the boy. Giving him a reassuring smile, before leaving the room, and making her way to Tommy's office. Her heart thumping frantically, as Arthur's voice got louder; as he said something about not wanting someone around the children........around her.
"Her.......? Now, ya wouldn't mean a certain school teacher, would ya? I heard, yeah, that she was a pretty little thing. Too fuckin good fa tha likes a you, ya pikey prick........." A new voice suddenly said. His words touching a nerve inside her. (Y/n) never one to hit out at anyone; never one to want to fight; but this man, whoever he was.......she just wanted to slap him for calling Arthur what he had just called him; for basically insulting the entire Shelby family by speaking of their gypsy heritage in such a way. The young woman taking a deep breath, knowing she shouldn't go into the room; but she would not stand for this.............
"Arthur.......?!" She gasped, as she saw Tommy doing his best to hold his brother back from getting to another man that she had never seen before. The man that had obviously just insulted her Arthur.
"(Y/n), leave........." Tommy ordered, continuing to hold on to Arthur, as she moved into the room. The teacher knowing that normally she would do as he had said, yet, as she looked at Arthur and saw the pain behind his eyes; the sheer unadulterated anger and hurt, she chose to stand her ground. She chose to ignore what she had been told. Her feet quickly taking her to the smugly smiling man in the large dark hat and suit. Her hand just as quickly moving to slap his cheek. The sting she felt on her palm, even more satisfying when she saw the shocked look in the man's eyes.
"You......you, whoever you are. If you ever speak to my Arthur like that again; if you ever insult a member of this family, again, I will make you regret it......" (Y/n) growled; pulling herself to her full height and glaring at the stranger one last time, before she made her way over to Tommy and Arthur; taking the older Shelby from Tommy's grasp, and pulling him from the room.
