Adaa POV
As I entered home after work, I was greeted with the beautiful sight of my son sleeping on my husband's chest, and my husband carefully kept his hand on my baby keeping him in place. They both were sleeping in the living room.
I quietly moved to our room to freshen up and change into something comfortable. Dev loves skin-to-skin contact even though he is over a year and 4 months old. It's been a year since we adopted him, and our parents were not so happy with our decision but agreed nonetheless.
They want us to bring a child into this world, but I don't know if we are ready. So we let it slide every time they ask about that. But the little miracle had changed them, he became their apple of an eye. He got them wrapped around his little finger, including Leela, Ram, and my brother.
My life is nothing less than a fairy tale and he was my fictional character. But Dev is the spin of the book that keeps the fairy tale alive.
Dev is now able to talk a few words and most of them are not understandable. He has always been a mummy's boy, and he still is. But whenever his father came home he would just fumble with his steps and reach the living room from the kitchen or balcony or our bedroom.
No matter how much workload and stress Vishrut has, he makes sure to spend time with Dev, they play his favorite peek-a-boo game and run behind each other. Dev shares his whole day with his dad, and his dad would react as if it's the most interesting thing in the world.
Dev is a good boy, who sleeps early and wakes up early. So we get enough time to spend with each other after he sleeps. I started to be at home most of the time as I could manage it from here, but whenever Vishrut got time he would stay home so that I could go to the office.
Much to our happiness Dev got a brother, Yes, Leela had her second child, Agastya, a baby boy of 2 weeks old. Vikram was also blessed with a baby girl, Chitra 5-month-old baby. I last time I met them was during their naming ceremony of Chitra.
I am glad that none of them, even our parents never made Dev feel like an outsider. He has become a source of happiness for them, a bundle of joy. A Diwali pataka(cracker).
I took the blank on the bed to the living room, to cover them. I sat down facing them after covering them, my mind wandering off to different scenarios of what would happen if I told him this.
I know he will be happy but, he will defiantly ask me if I am ready, what should I answer? His groan broke my chin of thoughts, stroking their heads I move back to the kitchen to cook dinner as it's already 6.
Dev now eats some food, so the rice should be very soft, and easy to smash, and Charu (soup made of tomatoes) is a must.
They woke up by the time I finished dinner. The first thing Dev does after waking up is to wake his father, his little fist colliding with the broad chest, it must feel like a feather tickling for my husband.
"Dev, hi baby", I took him in my arms.
"Amma.....", he squeals hugging me, wrapping his tiny arms around my neck. From the day he entered my life, it's never the same again, the sweet giggles, loud sneakers, running here and there sometimes to stop him from pulling the curtains, sometimes pushing him into the washroom for a bath.Sometimes walking behind him as fast as I can to make him eat, sometimes as slow as possible to not wake him up. fighting in his language, and laughing after he scolds me, with his miniature index finger. Oh god, his boy is my life!!
Will it be the same after certain someone's arrival?
What if make him feel like we are ignoring him?
What if our parents give more importance to this baby?
What if we fail to take care of each other with the same importance?
What if he misunderstands the care given to this baby as we are leaving him alone?
