2009, United States, John's safehouse
It had been a year since Skye Garrett had met Grant Ward, she still didn't completely trust him and knew the feeling was entirely mutual but she also knew she was starting to trust him and that worried her, there was only one person in her 23 years of life that she'd ever trusted and that was John Garrett, her father.
But there was something about Grant that she felt she could trust, she'd been told, by her father, that his family were a bunch of assholes but nothing more than that, something told Skye that even her father didn't know the whole story about Grant and his family.
Which was the whole reason she was reading about them, when she stumbled across an article about Grant burning down his family house or trying to with his parents and older brother, Christian, inside.
"So, that's why Dad called you the pyro." she muttered to herself as she scrolled through.
"So, you've decided instead of asking me, to read about my family instead." Grant speaks from behind her, making Skye jump.
The brunette turned towards Grant with a scowl. "Well, it's not like you tell me anything about them."
Grant shrugged and walked into the room, her bedroom to be precise without asking, to which Skye made a face at. "It's not important, they're not important."
Skye frowned. "What did they do to you? I want your side, not the medias or your family's, yours, tell me why you're the way you are."
Grant frowned deeply, Skye was beginning to think that's all he could do, frown, have a hate face and keep and emotionlessly look. "My older brother beat me, my sister and my little brother up for nothing, for eating a piece of his birthday cake. That'll all I'm going to tell you until I know I can trust you." Grant then walked out the room.
Skye watched him go. "Huh."

Present Day, 2016.
"Agent Banks, you'll have another SHIELD Convoy as Agent May's taken personal time, you'll be escorted by Agent Bobbi Morse," Rosalind said on the phone to Banks, her right hand man not giving him a chance to respond, she hung up on him and turned to Coulson who was still looking through folders about Daisy. "It's not healthy, Phil."
"I know." Coulson replied closing the folders and leaning back in his chair. "Try not to kill Lincoln, if you scare him he'll never come in and he's got good control of his powers and will only use them in self-defence if needed, he's one of the one we keep from you, it's why I'm sending Bobbi even if May was here, he's met Bobbi, he might respond better to her."
Rosalind nodded stiffly, she knew none of Coulson's team agreed with the use of lethal force on the Inhumans but they had to be stopped somehow. "Very well." she said and turned on her heel and walked out.

"Dais, Lincoln's being hunted by the ATCU." Grant said walking in.
Daisy shrugged, still trying to track down the other Inhumans. "He wants SHIELD, not HYDRA, it's his problem, seeing as they work together."
Grant nodded in agreement and started walking off when Daisy called out to him. "When did you start trusting me?"
Grant blinked in surprise at the odd question but answered nonetheless. "After I told you about what Christian did to me and my siblings over a piece of cake." he shrugged.
"Honestly, that's when I started trusting you too, but I still read about your family when I was bored." Daisy said.
"Why am I not surprised? You gonna help Joey today?" Grant asked.
