Episode 17: Afterlife [Part 2]

Skye and Jiaying are walking on a path in the mountain speaking to one another.

"I want to know where you're from. Did you make friends there?" Jiaying asked.

"At S.H.I.E.L.D.? Yeah. They're like family. Or they were." Skye said.

"Until you changed?" They stop walking and take in the beautiful view while they talk. "They sent agents after you."

"I don't know what happened. I know I impaled a guy." Skye said.

"Who shot at you." Jiaying added.

"No. I lost control." Skye said.

"Do you understand your gift?" Jiaying asked.

Skye seems to think for a moment coming up with the logical answer. "I...make things shake?"

Jiaying laughs as Skye smiles. "Well, not really. Everything's shaking already, vibrating at its own natural frequency," Jiaying has a small rock in her hands which she shows to Skye. "This stone, the wood in the trees, I believe you can learn to sense those frequencies around you and resonate with them so that not everything is shaking, only what you choose."

"Sense a frequency. How do I do that?" Skye asked.

Jiaying once again chuckles. "I don't know. I'm not the one with the gift. I just work here." Jiaying holds up the rock so it's in Skye's vision between them.

"You think I can hear the stone?" Skye asked, Jiaying shrugs and smiles then looks at the rock in her hand. Skye looks doubtfully at the rock then takes it out of Jiaying's hand. Skye closes her hand around the rock as well as her eyes. Suddenly they open with a surprised look. "Whoa. You've got to be kidding me." Skye chuckles.

"Can you hear it?" Jiaying asked.

"No. Not the stone. The mountain. It's the loudest thing here." They both stare at the snow covered mountain in front of them.

Jiaying smiles and laughs. "Well, now take that frequency and see if you can amplify it."

Skye looks from Jiaying to the mountain looking worried. "The last time I did something like this a lot of people got hurt."

"You can't hurt the mountain, and you're not gonna hurt me. Don't be afraid." Jiaying said.

Skye nods her head a couple of times the focuses on the mountain. She closes her eyes and lifts up her now rock free hand, holding the palm of it out toward the mountain. After a few moments we can hear the mountain rumbling. Skye keeps her eyes closed as snow off the side starts to tumble down the mountain with her powers. Since her eyes are closed she also misses the loving and proud look Jiaying gives to her. Skye opens her eyes and gasps when she sees what she was just able to do. They both chuckle a bit as Skye absorbs what she just did. "I moved a mountain."

Jiaying gives her a big proud smile then her face turns serious. "Remember that feeling. It's not something to be afraid of." Skye nods her understanding as the both look at the mountain again.

Jiaying and Skye enter the courtyard at Afterlife, speaking to one another. "So what happens next?" Skye asked.

"Eat like crazy, then rest up. This afternoon will be much harder." Jiaying said.

"Than the avalanche?" Skye asked.

They stop walking as Jiaying gives her a smile. Jiaying sees a man standing just behind Skye, when their eyes meet he gives her a nod of his head. With an apologetic smile Jiaying looks at Skye.
