The first time that Hyunjin had ever been bit by a vampire, it was by the infamous Bang Chan.
Hyunjin, of course, hadn't meant for his life to pan out like this- but in the end, it had.
Ever since he was a kid, he had been infatuated with the fact that vampires actually existed in real life. As a child, his mother would tell him stories about them as if they were urban legends- until years later into his teens, they became a much less well guarded secret.
Eventually, everyone in society discovered them one way or another, and while some lived in fear about being swooped down upon in the middle of the night to be preyed upon, Hyunjin never was because he knew that vampires didn't just rely on blood lust.
The government passed a dual law addressing the issue and propaganda against vampires. A law that would protect vampires from being ridiculed against and unfairly treated, but also prevented them from taking anyone's blood without their express consent. They could buy blood bags from donors and hunt in the forest like a natural predator would, if human blood wasn't an option.
So in the end, there was no reason for Hyunjin to be fearful at all of vampires.
By the time he was an adult and he moved into his own apartment at the edge of the city, he didn't listen to the warnings that his mom and university friends gave him for moving into that particular area because apparently it was the clan territory of the stray pack.
A clan built up of seven vampires all with their own jobs and admirations. (Apparently, well paying jobs because the large mansion-like house they lived in was nestled right on the hill along a walking path that led directly to Hyunjin's apartment complex.)
The strays were a clan that quickly became famous and thrusted into the limelight for their high positions jobs and being open vampires while working said jobs. It was nice to see vampire representation for such high ranking jobs, as they were often looked down upon in society.
So yeah, Hyunjin didn't care much for the chatter of people around him and just how vacant his apartment complex was because of who they lived close to. Hyunjin would take it as a blessing that he didn't have loud neighbors. Or nosey ones. He didn't know which would be worse.
Months after settling into his apartment and finally getting rid of all of the boxes (it took an embarrassingly long time to clear them out.) he received a text message from one of his old college buddies who had been in the same art program as him.
He had been lazing around on the couch with his toxic green face mask on and a fluffy pink bathrobe, eating pocky straight out of the box as he watched a drama on the television when his phone buzzed.
He was going to ignore it at first, because Sundays were his rare days off that he didn't spend in front of a canvas at all hours of the day painting (unless he suddenly had a burst of inspiration) because deadlines approached quickly for clients and so did gallery entries.
But then his phone buzzed again, this time more adamantly, and when it didn't stop Hyunjin groaned and stretched his fingertips out to the coffee table to grab the remote and pause his beloved drama before groping along the tiled floor for wherever his phone had fallen off too.
