"No- you need to grab it from the base. Dig down for it and you should feel when to pull."
"Oh- like this hyung?"
"...eh, not quite. Twist your wrist a little... yeah. That's better."
"And now I just pull?"
"Yup, tug a little hard. Don't be afraid, you won't hurt it."
Hyunjin watched as Jeongin uprooted the weed from the ground, the soil dispersing around the invasive vegetation until the youngest finally pulled the entire thing out and tossed it in the bucket that Hyunjin held. Hyunjin smiled proudly, clasping his hand with Jeongin's gloved ones in celebration, not caring about the mud. "Good job Innie- that was perfect. Can you do the rest of the garden?"
"Of course, Hyung. Leave it to me."
At first, the others had been a little grossed out by all of the dirt and mosquitoes of the farmland because apparently mosquitoes really liked vampire blood. They weren't used to the type of living that Hyunjin did as a kid- waking up early to work on the garden and then helping with the harvest near sunset- but they endured anyway.
When Hyunjin had explained how his mother had fallen on hard times (after they figured out he was draining his bank account to keep his childhood home afloat) they didn't hesitate in offering to help when the time for harvest came around. His mom wouldn't be able to do it by herself and neither would Hyunjin- even if he had intended to.
They weren't very good, and they were clumsy at best, but they really tried their hardest under Hyunjin's instruction and it was all that he could ask for. For boyfriends supportive enough to fly hours away from their jobs during the holidays to work in the dirty field with him.
Hyunjin, honestly, didn't think he could be even more in love than he was now.
"Hyunjinnie, where do I put this?" Changbin asked, and Hyunjin stood up from his crouched position next to Jeongin to stare hardly at the way Changbin's muscles rippled under his sweaty tank top. "Hyunjin?"
Hyunjin blinked to regain his senses, and Jeongin was shooting him a knowing look from below. Hyunjin kicked him to get back to work before turning back to Changbin to see the bucket of well water in his hands. "Ah- take that in to my mother please. She'll know what to do with it."
Changbin left, blowing a kiss to Hyunjin which Hyunjin pretended to grab from the air and place in his pocket. Jeongin scrunched his nose up in disgust. "You two are gross."
"You're literally dating us?"
"Whatever."
Hyunjin slid his gardening gloves off and rubbed his hands against the legs of his overalls. He embroidered little bunnies into the pockets of them when he was bored one day- and Felix practically fawned over it until Hyunjin promised to make him some of his own with little yellow chicks.
It wasn't too hot of a day outside- thankfully. Winter had just broken with the promise of spring, and the weather was starting to show for it with a nice breeze on a sunny day. Every afternoon that they had been there so far- planting seeds and tending to the crops- they got a spring shower where they all had to rush inside and abandon their tools to escape the storm.
