"Caspian is dating the pink-haired girl from before," Luna told the others in their common room when Crystal wasn't around. "Daniel mentioned it on the phone. I'm so angry and sad." She flopped into a chair.
Lithia, engrossed in her tablet, replied, "Don't let it get to you too much. Crystal has already moved on."
"I know," Luna huffed. "She's my friend, so I have every right to be upset."
Artemisia, who was reading a book, added, "But they've talked it over. They're still friends, you know."
"Yeah, and what if their relationship was toxic? It's better they're not together," Carissa commented.
Danielle, sitting beside Luna, said thoughtfully, "Sometimes things turn out differently than we want, but that doesn't always mean it's for the worse."
Just then, Crystal entered the room, carrying her guitar case. "I was in the music room," she said, taking off her beanie. "Did anything important happen?"
"No, just talking about schoolwork," Danielle replied. "Pronouncing technical spells is a challenge."
Everyone turned to Danielle, noticing how quickly she had shifted the topic.
"Yeah, it's really tough and frustrating," Crystal agreed, her tone reflecting her own frustration. "And we'll be starting our continuous assessment on it soon."
Artemisia, sensing an opportunity to refocus the conversation, suggested, "How about we have a study group tonight? It could help us get a better handle on those spells."
Luna's mood brightened slightly. "That sounds like a good plan. We could all use the extra practice."
"Definitely," Crystal said, setting her guitar case down. "I could use the support for sure."
Carissa smiled. "I'll bring some snacks. How about we meet in the common room at seven?"
"Perfect," Artemisia agreed, closing her book. "Let's make sure we're well-prepared for the assessment."
As the girls began to organise their study session, the earlier tension faded, replaced by a sense of shared purpose and support.
By seven o'clock, they gathered in the common room, their notes and snacks spread out on the coffee table.
Lithia distributed snacks and drinks, making sure everyone had what they needed. "Alright, let's get started. Who wants to begin with the first spell?"
Artemisia, flipping through her notes, volunteered. "It's tricky, but I've been practicing."
The group huddled around, with Artemisia demonstrating the correct way to pronounce the incantation. The others listened attentively, taking notes and practicing along.
As the study session continued, Luna's attempts to master a particularly tricky incantation didn't go as planned. She furrowed her brow and focused, but instead of casting the spell correctly, a small, dark rain cloud formed directly above her head, drizzling a light but persistent rain.
The other girls paused and looked up in surprise, then burst into laughter.
"Looks like we've got a downpour!" Crystal teased, her eyes twinkling with amusement.
Luna, blushing furiously, tried to swat away the raindrops. "This is so embarrassing."
Artemisia grinned. "It's just a small cloud, Luna. At least it's not a thunderstorm!"
Carissa added with a chuckle, "Yeah, very lucky for that."
Despite the teasing, the mood lightened considerably, laughing and enjoying the unexpected break.
