Many days passed peacefully for the fairies at Alphea. Classes resumed their usual rhythm, with the girls diving into their lessons. Between assignments and study sessions, they found time to unwind in the dorm, their laughter and chatter filling the halls as they shared stories and helped each other with schoolwork.
For a moment, the tension from recent events faded away, leaving only a strange sense of calm. The girls cherished this calm, knowing that in their world, tranquillity was often fleeting, so it was best to enjoy it while it lasted.
After the intense magical defence lesson, as the other fairies began to file out of the classroom, Zephyr, their instructor, called back Danielle.
"You asked for me?" She said, turning to face him with a curious look.
"Yes, I did." He nodded, his expression thoughtful. "How has the class been for you so far?"
Danielle paused, considering her answer. "It's been... challenging," she admitted. "But in a good way. I feel like I'm learning a lot, especially about managing stronger defences."
Zephyr smiled, clearly pleased. "That's good to hear. I've noticed your progress, especially in spell resistance. You have a natural talent, Danielle."
Danielle's eyes lit up at the compliment. "Thanks, I guess... It's really due to your guidance and all the studying I've been doing."
Zephyr chuckled. "Well, it's important to recognise your own efforts as well. You've put in the hard work, and it's paying off."
"Thank you, professor," Danielle replied, nodding appreciatively.
"But I can't help but notice—is that a soul-protective charm around your neck?" He asked, his gaze fixed on the necklace that hung around her neck.
Danielle's hand instinctively gripped the charm. "Yeah, is that a problem?" she replied, trying to keep her tone steady.
Zephyr raised an eyebrow, curiosity evident in his expression. "Are you having issues, Danielle?"
She hesitated, weighing her words carefully. "I wouldn't say issues, exactly. It's just... I feel a little off sometimes, and the charm helps."
Zephyr chuckled lightly. "I feel like you're not telling me the whole truth, though. But I understand if it's too personal to divulge. I'm not trying to intrude; I just want to help."
"I understand, professor." Danielle nodded, feeling a mix of gratitude and discomfort.
"Oh, please, don't call me 'Professor'," he replied with a playful grin. "It makes me feel very old, and I'm not that old. Just use my first name."
"Alright, Zephyr, it is," she said with a small nod.
"So I guess it's a soul anchoring spell," Zephyr continued, his tone becoming more serious. "It's only used to keep one's soul in their body. In some cases, it's because the soul isn't in the right body, or one cannot control the rate at which their soul leaves their body. But I'm guessing it's the latter for you."
Danielle nodded. "It's true. I've been soul travelling while I sleep lately, so I went to get the charm from the Pixie Village," she admitted.
Zephyr nodded, understandingly. "Of course. Pixies cannot be underestimated due to their size; they still hold great power." He paused, "It was wise of you to seek their help. They have a unique understanding of magical energies and can create charms that are quite effective."
Danielle nodded. "Yeah, it's effective."
"But I can't deny it's a bit tiring wearing it all the time, isn't it?" Zephyr asked, his brow furrowing in concern.
"Well, I have no choice," Danielle replied, a hint of frustration creeping into her voice.
Zephyr nodded, his expression softening. "I understand. But maybe you could let me research it a bit? If that would be okay with you."
Danielle hesitated for a moment, considering his offer. "Are you sure? I wouldn't want to put you in a difficult position."
"I'm more than willing," he assured her. "Plus, it could lead to ways to help you find other suitable alternative solutions."
His genuine eagerness made her feel more at ease. "Alright, if you think it could help, I'd appreciate it."
"Great! I'll start looking into it right away," Zephyr said, a spark of excitement lighting up his eyes. "And I'll keep you updated on my findings."
"Thanks, Zephyr. That means a lot," Danielle replied, feeling a renewed sense of hope as she left his office, the weight of her worries feeling a little lighter.
Danielle arrived at her dorm a few minutes later, finding her friends gathered in the common room.
"So, how was the meeting with the cute young professor?" Luna asked, a mischievous grin spreading across her face.
"Yeah, what's up with that?" Crystal added, smacking Luna gently on the head to silence her.
Danielle couldn't help but smile at their antics. "It was fine," she replied, trying to keep her tone casual. "We just talked about class and... some personal stuff."
"Personal stuff?" Artemisia perked up; her curiosity piqued. "What kind of personal stuff?"
Danielle said, "Just about my soul anchoring charm and how it's been affecting me."
"Oh! So he knows about it?" Lithia leaned forward, interested. "What did he say?"
Danielle sat down on the couch. "He was really understanding. He even offered to help me research it more."
"Wow, that's really nice of him," Carissa said, nodding approvingly. "Sounds like he genuinely cares."
"I guess it is nice of him," Danielle replied, her tone slightly more thoughtful.
"Of course, he's just being nice, I wished he also paid just as much attention to the rest of us like he does to you..." Luna chimed in playfully, but before she could continue, Crystal threw a pillow at her.
"Don't say it like that!" Crystal said, rolling her eyes.
Luna caught the pillow with a laugh. "It's just an observation, Crystal. Ever since the first class, it has always been Danielle this and Danielle that. Makes me wonder though."
"Gosh, Luna, you can be unbelievable sometimes," Lithia said, shaking her head in disbelief.
"What? I said it was an observation. Gosh lighten up! Leave the bad vibes to the witches." Luna pouted, crossing her arms defensively.
"Speaking of the witches, it has been awfully calm these days, don't you all think?" Carissa said as she walked toward the window and peering through it, changing the subject.
"Who knows what they could be planning?" she continued.
"Yeah, I don't like the silence," Crystal chimed in, crossing her arms. "It feels like the calm before the storm."
Danielle nodded, her mind drifting to the recent events involving the witches. "Well, if they're up to something, we need to be prepared."
Luna agreed "Exactly, it's too quiet. we shouldn't trust the silence."
"I just hope, we would be ready for whatever they have planned." Artemisia said, her concern evident as the fairies continued to contemplate on the witches' next move
