Chapter twenty-two

After a while, the fairies and the Head Witch finally reached the Codex chamber. The room was vast and dimly lit, with ancient marks along the walls. The fairies could feel the energy of the protective barrier around the room.

The Head Witch gestured toward the pedestal. "This is where the Codex is kept. As you can see, it's surrounded by a series of intricate protective wards that make it nearly impossible for anyone to break through undetected."

Luna frowned. "If the witches somehow found a way past the wards, what would happen?"

The Head Witch nodded solemnly. "That would be a worst-case scenario, though I highly doubt they'd succeed."

"Oh, is that a challenge?" Scarlett's voice echoed through the chamber, dripping with smugness.

The fairies whipped around, startled by Scarlett's voice echoing through the chamber. Shadows shifted near the entrance, and the sinister figures of Scarlett, Tasma, and Electra emerged, each wearing a smug grin.

"Scarlett!" Danielle exclaimed, "How did you get in here?"

Scarlett laughed, her voice dripping with mockery. "Oh, you fairies have such little imagination. You think some wards would keep us out?" She stepped closer, eyes gleaming determination. "We came prepared."

"Where are the pixies?" Crystal asked, suddenly noticing their absence.

"Oh, you mean these little pests?" Tasma sneered, making a translucent plum-coloured orb appear, with the pixies trapped inside. The fairies gasped.

"We took them," Electra said with a smirk.

"No, the pixies!" Carissa exclaimed, her face filled with worry.

"We're simply hitting multiple targets at once, claiming the Codex and hitting you fairies where it hurts," Scarlett sneered with a laugh.

The head witch narrowed her eyes. "You won't get past me," she warned, her voice cold and resolute.

"Sorry, but you are out of the equation." Electra sneered, launching a powerful bolt of electricity. It struck the Head Witch, sending her crashing against the wall.

The fairies rushed to the Head Witch's side as she struggled to regain her footing, her breaths shallow but her gaze unwavering.

"You...you'll regret that, MAGIC TRANSFORM" Danielle said, her fists clenched. The fairies unveiling their fairy forms.

Scarlett chuckled, her eyes gleaming with amusement. "Do you think you can actually stop us?" She glanced at Tasma and Electra. "Let's show them what real power looks like."

Luna stepped forward, her voice steady. "You're not getting that Codex," she declared.

With a smirk, Scarlett extended her hand, forming a sphere of icy energy. "Let's see how that's going to play out," she hissed, launching the attack straight at Luna.

"SUN BEAM!" Luna shouted, channelling her energy into a blazing ray of light that shot forward to meet Scarlett's icy attack.

The two forces collided midair, creating a blinding explosion that shook the walls of the Codex chamber.

As the smoke dissipated, Scarlett smirked. "Impressive, but you'll need to do better than that," she sneered, forming another sphere of icy energy in her hand.

"Release our pixies," Luna demanded, her voice laced with irritation.

"Let's not act rash," Lithia cautioned. "Both the Codex and our pixies are at stake here."

"Let's see how well you handle this!" Tasma taunted, creating five mirror images of herself that surrounded the fairies.

"DARK CYCLONE!" Electra chanted, unleashing a swirling mass of dark energy.
