Later that night, the headmistress arrived at their dorm, her expression calm but focused. Lithia had already set up her gadget. Wires extended from the device, gently attached to Danielle's head.
Danielle lay on her bed, looking a bit uneasy as the wires connected to her. "This feels a little weird," she admitted, trying to smile.
The headmistress approached her with a reassuring nod. "You're doing great, Danielle. Just try to relax. We'll be here the entire time, monitoring everything."
Lithia adjusted the settings on her device, her fingers moving quickly as she calibrated the analyzer. "Okay, everything is set. Once you fall asleep, the device will start recording. Just focus on resting and let us do the work."
The rest of the girls gathered around, their faces a mix of concern and determination. Luna squeezed Danielle's hand gently. "We've got you. Whatever happens, you're not alone."
Danielle took a deep breath, then closed her eyes, trying to push aside her worries. The room fell silent as everyone waited, the only sound being the soft hum of the thought analyser as it began its work.
"So, we'll just wait until she falls asleep?" Crystal whispered to Artemisia, her voice barely above a breath.
"Yes," Artemisia replied softly. "It won't be long now. I gave her a special tea to help."
"Danielle doesn't even like tea," Carissa added, her tone slightly amused.
Artemisia gave a small, knowing smile. "I know, but this time, she didn't have much of a choice."
They all fell silent again, the room heavy with anticipation as they watched over their friend. Danielle's eyelids grew heavy as the effects of the special tea took hold. She settled into a comfortable position on the bed, her breathing becoming steady and deep. Lithia adjusted the wires connected to the analyser, her face focused and serious.
The headmistress stood by the door, her expression contemplative as she observed the setup. "We need to be ready to act quickly if anything unusual happens," she said softly.
After a while of the thought analyser showing no activity, it began to glitch, displaying random numbers and emitting a warning sound.
"Something is wrong!" Lithia exclaimed, her panic evident. Carissa quickly moved to Danielle's side, noting that her body temperature felt colder than usual.
Carissa gently shook Danielle's shoulder, trying to wake her. "Danielle, wake up!" she urged, her voice laced with concern.
The headmistress hurried over, her expression grave. "We need to wake her immediately," she instructed, examining the thought analyser with a furrowed brow.
"Wake up, Danielle!" Artemisia's voice wavered as she tapped her friend, her fear growing with each passing moment. "This is just like last time. I'm terrified."
The headmistress crouched beside Danielle, her face etched with worry as she surveyed Danielle's still form. "We need to get her out of this state. Do you have any idea what's going on, Lithia?" Crystal asked urgently.
Lithia frantically adjusted the controls, her brow furrowed in concentration. "I'm trying, but this is unlike anything I've encountered before. It's as though the dream is actively resisting us."
"Then she's not dreaming," the headmistress said grimly. "It appears she's soul-travelling."
The room fell silent as the weight of the Headmistress's words sank in. Lithia's hands stilled on the controls, her eyes wide with shock. "Soul-travelling? Is that even possible?"
