Today was the first Senate hearing about Lucky O'Casino, an illegal gambling syndicate involved in numerous crimes, including money laundering, human trafficking, scamming, and harboring fugitives. As Risa sat in her chair, many senators arrived; Sen. Jinggoy sat beside her, as well as Sen. Will. Even though Risa didn’t want Jinggoy next to her, she didn’t have a choice since he played a big part in the investigation.
As the hearing started, the senators, government officials, suspected criminals, and the Madam Chair, Sen. Ana Theresia Aguerro, were introduced.
“Magandang hapon sa inyong lahat,” she greeted. “Before we start, may I ask if we are all settled in our respective areas? Are we comfortable?” She smiled, trying to distract herself, though she was extremely nervous. Go Hua Ping’s stare was harsh; she was also a chinita, like Alicia, but Ana tried to control herself and set aside her personal feelings for the Senate proceedings.
“Thank you for your concern, Madam Chair,” Sen. Loren said with a smile.
“Okay, let’s proceed with the investigation,” Sen. Risa said, glancing at her index cards, each one with a question written and space for the answers.
“Go Hua Ping?” Hua Ping looked at her. “Can you tell me about yourself first?”
“Your Honor, ako po si Go Hua Ping. They call me Waping po,” she replied. Risa was shocked; Waping was Alicia's nickname in Bamban. “I’m 30 years old, a businesswoman from Sual, Pangasinan,” she continued.
“Okay, so you're Waping. Can I call you that instead?” Sen. Risa asked calmly.
“Your Honor, yes po, you may,” she replied with a smile, her chinita features reminiscent of Alicia’s.
“Okay, Waping, so your father was Go Jian Zhong, and your mother is Amelia Leal, according to your birth certificate, am I right?” Ana asked.
“Yes, your Honor.”
“So now tell me, Waping, saan ka pinanganak?”
“Your Honor, dito po sa Pilipinas. Ako po ay itinago ng tatay ko sa farm namin sa Sual.”
