"Pity? There are countless pitiful people in the world. If you help them all, you'll never get anything done." Huang Shan mumbled, turning his back and not saying anything more.

In this apocalypse, everyone was struggling to survive. He didn't want to see those heartbreaking scenes, but he didn't have the ability to help others survive. He couldn't even take care of himself.

Since Mo Ran wasn't foolish enough to become a martyr, he wouldn't object if she helped others while protecting herself.

The three of them discussed their route to the mall on the rooftop. The first problem they had to solve was how to avoid the horde of zombies on the commercial street. No one wanted to face them head-on.

They discussed several entry plans, but they were all rejected. Mo Ran was getting frustrated, realizing they had no way to cross the street.

Even going around wasn't an option. This was the city center. Every street was teeming with zombies. Trying to cross the commercial street to get to the mall was like walking into a lion's den.

"What if we go over the rooftops?" Zhang Wan Ying suggested tentatively.

As soon as the words left her mouth, two pairs of eyes turned to her, making her wonder if she had said something stupid.

"Good idea." Mo Ran agreed.

If they couldn't go through on the ground, they could change their approach and go over the rooftops. It sounded a bit outlandish, but it wasn't impossible. Plus, the rooftops were much safer than the ground.

With the plan finalized, the three of them went downstairs to prepare their equipment. They were startled when they saw the zombies on the 17th floor.

The zombies were squatting in front of the door of the family they had encountered earlier, gnawing on flesh. The scene was incredibly disturbing.

Mo Ran and Huang Shan took care of the zombies. Seeing the body lying at the doorway, its flesh ripped open and barely clinging to the bones, Mo Ran couldn't help but gag.

They hadn't seen anyone eaten so clean on their journey. They probably wouldn't be able to stomach meat for lunch.

Although there was barely any flesh left on the body, the clothes were recognizable as the man's. In the short time they had been gone, the man had been devoured by zombies. It was a cruel twist of fate.

There were no other bodies on the ground. The mother and child must still be inside. Mo Ran went up to the door and knocked, but no one answered for a long time.

After waiting a while and seeing that no one was willing to open the door, the three of them didn't linger and left.

It wasn't until they left that the woman hiding behind the door, peering through the peephole, breathed a sigh of relief. She hugged her child and went inside to count their food supplies.

The food would last them for about half a month if they rationed it carefully. If there was still no rescue by then, she didn't know what she would do. Perhaps she would just stay in the house.

She would stay in her safe haven, waiting for the Schrödinger's rescue, until she starved to death.

The difference between those who could survive and those who couldn't in the face of zombies might just be a matter of courage.

The three of them returned to Mo Ran's house to prepare the ropes and other tools needed for traversing the rooftops. This was the first time they were doing this kind of dangerous activity. They were all inexperienced and nervous.
