Facing the charging zombies, she struck them head-on, knocking them down. But Zhang Wan-ying didn't leave immediately. Instead, she stayed put, clearing a path for Mo Ran and Huang Shan.
The two of them quickly descended, and once they were all together, they charged out of the zombie encirclement and ran towards the mall.
Three zombies, missing limbs, stood guard at the mall entrance. Behind them, a dense, writhing mass of "people" filled the first floor of the mall.
Mo Ran's heart sank. She took the lead, eliminating the three zombies, but more were still inside the mall, far more than they had anticipated.
Some zombies, attracted by the noise, followed behind them. Meanwhile, the zombies inside the mall had spotted them and began to shamble towards them.
No way, we can't get in.
Zhang Wan-ying watched the scene unfold, her heart pounding. Even at school, they hadn't been surrounded by so many zombies.
And at school, they were trying to escape. Here, they were trying to enter a zombie nest. It was impossible, they couldn't do it with just the three of them.
"Ran Ye, I'm scared," Huang Shan's legs gave way.
"Ran Ran," Zhang Wan-ying called out to the person in front of her. Though she didn't finish her sentence, her meaning was clear.
Mo Ran gripped the axe in her hand tightly, a flicker of struggle in her eyes. She knew they couldn't get in, but could they just give up? Mo Bai might be inside!
If she had come alone, she would have gone in no matter how difficult it was. But now, she had companions.
"Let's retreat," she said.
They would find another opportunity to go in later. For now, they had to retreat.
As long as they didn't go inside the mall, escaping would be easy. The three of them turned and prepared to fight their way out through the smaller group of zombies behind them.
Just then, a shout came from the direction of the mall. The sound stopped Mo Ran in her tracks, and without hesitation, she turned and ran towards the mall.
It was Mo Bai's voice!
The tall, muscular man, wielding a baseball bat, was fighting his way through the zombies on the first floor of the mall. His clothes were still relatively intact, but his face was covered in blood, making him look quite disheveled.
Despite this, his face still bore a seven-point resemblance to Mo Ran. This was Mo Bai.
"Sis!" he continued to shout loudly.
When he saw Mo Ran and the others from the rooftop, he immediately came down. He was overjoyed, but afraid that his sister wouldn't see him and leave, so he couldn't help but shout at the top of his lungs.
He had been trapped in this mall for so long, and the people he missed and regretted the most were his family. He thought he might not see them again until the next life.
Mo Bai killed a few zombies, then gasped for breath and glanced to the side. His reliable companion had already taken care of the approaching zombies, looking much more relaxed than him.
He wanted to compliment the other guy, saying "Nice work," but now was clearly not a good time, because his sister was still battling zombies at the mall entrance.
Mo Ran charged into the mall like she was going to die anyway, and Zhang Wan-ying and Huang Shan had no choice but to follow. The three of them worked together to take down the zombies at the mall entrance.
