While clearing the 17th floor, they encountered the first living people they had met since entering the building. After they had cleared the zombies in the corridor, a door suddenly opened.
A man with a scraggly beard opened the security door with a look of fear and stopped the three of them through the iron bars. Behind him was a woman with a sallow complexion, and next to her was a timid child.
"Are you... are you from the government organization here to clear out these monsters?" The man asked, his eyes filled with hope.
The three of them looked at each other. Zhang Wan Ying explained that they were just students returning home from outside. The man's face turned ashen in an instant after hearing the explanation.
"It's been almost half a month. Why hasn't the government come to eliminate these monsters? Our family is about to give up." The woman instantly covered her face and cried, her cry filled with despair.
The child, perhaps influenced by the adults, also started to cry. He cried and shouted that he was hungry and wanted to eat.
Mo Ran couldn't bear to watch this scene. The most innocent people in this apocalypse were probably these children. They were so young and innocent, yet they had to face such a terrible disaster.
"We have no food left at home. If this continues, Mom will have to cut off her own flesh to feed you." The woman squatted down, hugged the child, and cried bitterly. It was quite a scene.
The man looked very agitated. He growled at them, "Stop crying. What if you attract those monsters?"
The child immediately fell silent. He seemed to be afraid of his father. The woman hugged the child, her eyes red as she looked at Mo Ran and the others. Upon closer inspection, there was a hint of resentment in her eyes.
Why weren't these people here to save them? Why were they standing there so indifferently when they saw how pitiful their family was? The woman cursed in her heart.
She cursed not only them, but also her cowardly and useless husband, and even those damn zombies.
"Little brother, do you have any extra food to spare? We adults are fine, but the child has been hungry for days. He's so young..." The man asked Huang Shan, wiping his eyes as he spoke.
Huang Shan looked at the family with a wry smile. Food was so precious in the apocalypse. It didn't seem like this family didn't understand that.
This man came right up and asked them for food. Did he really think they were students who were easy to fool? He was a grown man with hands and feet. Why didn't he go out and find food himself?
They had risked their lives to get those food supplies. Why should they give them to a stranger?
"I'm sorry, I can't make decisions on my own. Besides, if you want to eat, you can go find some yourself." Huang Shan said apologetically, but there was no apology in his tone.
Who would dare go out with so many monsters outside?
"You," the man wanted to get angry, but then he thought of something and smiled at the two girls, "Little girls..."
Girls were always softer than boys. He hoped to get something from these two girls. His first target was Zhang Wan Ying, who had a gentle appearance.
"I'm sorry, we don't have enough food either." Zhang Wan Ying looked at him calmly, giving him a standard smile, her refusal resolute.
The man's face turned ugly. The fake kindness in his voice disappeared. " you students have no conscience at all. You look so relaxed killing those monsters. You must have a lot of food, right? It's not like we're asking you to give us a piece of your flesh. In times of disaster, everyone should help each other. We're just asking you to share some food. How can you be so cold-blooded?"
