The silence felt suffocating, like the walls of the car were closing in on him, and the only thing he could hear was the sound of his own racing heartbeat. His mind screamed for escape, but he didn't know how to make Jake understand how wrong this was, how scary this was.
"Joshua," Jake said softly, his voice now barely above a whisper, "you don't have to fight me. I can make things so much easier for you. You'll see... you'll thank me eventually."
But Joshua wasn't listening anymore. His mind was a whirlpool of fear and confusion, his body trembling with the adrenaline coursing through him. He didn't know how much longer he could endure this.
Just get me out of here. Please, someone help me.
He needed to call someone. He needed to talk to one of his members. It felt like a simple decision, but with every passing second, it felt harder to make.
Joshua reached into his pocket, fingers fumbling as he pulled out his phone. His thumb hovered over the screen, ready to unlock it. I'll call someone. I'll be okay, he told himself.
But before he could dial, a hand shot out from the driver's seat, swift and firm, grabbing his phone from his hand. Joshua gasped, eyes widening as Jake turned to him with a calm, yet unsettling expression.
"Hey!" Joshua protested, his voice shaking a little more than he intended. "What are you doing?"
Jake's gaze was steady, his smile polite but oddly distant. "You don't need to make any calls, Joshua. Once you tell them everything, your group will have a downfall. I'll make sure Seventeen never sees the light of day again."
Joshua blinked, his confusion growing. "W-what are you talking about?"
Jake's eyes narrowed slightly, and his smile faded into something more neutral. "I think you misunderstand the situation. You're not going anywhere just yet."
Joshua's stomach twisted. The words felt off, like a warning. He instinctively reached for the phone, but Jake held it up, keeping it just out of reach.
"Jake, please," Joshua said, voice tight with a growing sense of panic. "Give it back."
Jake was silent for a moment, his fingers still curled around the phone. When he spoke, his voice was soft but firm. "You need to understand that you're in this with me now. And there's no way out unless you cooperate."
Joshua's heart pounded, and for a moment, the world around him seemed to fade into a blur. Cooperate? What is he talking about?
"Jake, I don't want any trouble. Just let me go," Joshua said, his voice pleading, though he tried to keep his composure. "Please. Just take me home."
Jake's gaze softened, but there was no warmth in it. He wasn't angry, but there was something else in his eyes-something unsettling that Joshua couldn't quite place.
"You'll be fine," Jake said. "I'm just trying to make things easier for you."
Joshua opened his mouth to protest, but he couldn't find the words. Fear coiled tighter in his chest. He felt as though he was suffocating, trapped in the car, trapped by Jake's calm, controlled presence. There was no way to tell him what he was feeling-how everything inside him screamed to get out, to escape, to call someone, anyone.
The silence that followed was thick. Joshua's hand still twitched with the urge to take the phone back, but something in Jake's eyes told him it wasn't worth trying.
Jake's hand extended the phone back to him after a long pause, his voice quieter. "Just remember, you don't need anyone else right now. You have me."
Joshua took the phone back hesitantly, his hand shaking as he stared at the screen, unable to unlock it.
