The sun was just beginning to filter through the blinds as Dk finished buttoning his suit. The faint aroma of coffee wafted from the kitchen, mingling with the warmth of the morning. He glanced over at Joshua, who lounged on the couch, an air of nonchalance surrounding him despite the chaos of their lives.
"Hey, babe," Dk called, tying his tie with quick, practiced motions. "I'll be out in a minute."
"Not so fast, baby," Joshua replied, stretching like a cat. "I'm taking you to work today."
Dk raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. "Really? You're going to play chauffeur? What's the occasion?"
Joshua shrugged, a mischievous smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Just thought I'd keep you safe. You know how the streets can get. Might need someone watching your back."
Dk rolled his eyes but felt warmth spread through him at Joshua's protectiveness. "I can handle myself, you know. I'm not just some business executive. I've dealt with worse than angry clients."
"Sure you can," Joshua said, standing up and walking over to Dk, brushing his fingers along the collar of his suit. "But it doesn't hurt to have a little extra muscle around."
"Muscle, huh?" Dk chuckled, his heart racing slightly at the way Joshua looked at him. "I'll bet that's a convincing argument for anyone who might try something funny."
"Exactly," Joshua said, leaning in closer, their foreheads almost touching. "And besides, I want to show you off. It's not every day a mafia underboss gets to drop off his businessman boyfriend at the office."
Dk smirked, shaking his head. "You know I'd rather not bring attention to your... extracurricular activities, right?"
"Just think of it as a power move," Joshua replied, stepping back and grabbing his jacket. "Ready to roll, babe?"
Dk sighed, both exasperated and amused. "Alright, alright. Just don't make a scene. I need to keep my reputation intact."
"Reputation? With me around?" Joshua teased, throwing an arm around Dk's shoulders as they walked toward the door. "That's a tall order."
Dk chuckled, shaking his head. "You're impossible, you know that?"
"Yeah, but I'm your impossible," Joshua said, planting a quick kiss on Dk's cheek before opening the door. "Now let's get going, or you'll be late."
Dk smiled, a warmth blooming in his chest as they stepped out into the fresh morning air. "Alright, but if you make me late, you're buying lunch."
"Deal," Joshua said, winking as they headed down the stairs.
As they walked to the car, Dk couldn't help but glance sideways at Joshua, who radiated an effortless confidence that always drew attention. The sleek black sedan waited in the driveway, glistening under the morning sun.
"Nice ride," Dk commented, sliding into the passenger seat. "You know, some of us have to drive economy models to maintain our image."
Joshua chuckled, settling into the driver's seat. "And some of us get to ride in style. Just part of the job, babe."
"Right, the job," Dk said, watching as Joshua adjusted the mirrors with precision. "What's on the agenda for today? More negotiations or just keeping the peace?"
"Mostly keeping the peace," Joshua replied, his expression turning serious. "But I have a few things planned for later. Gotta remind a couple of people who's in charge."
Dk raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms. "As long as it doesn't involve breaking any legs, I'm fine with it."
"Who, me?" Joshua said innocently, but the glint in his eye suggested otherwise. "I'd never let my baby down like that."
