Chapter 23: Tough Stuff

And all of a sudden, Jordan was awake. There was lots of light annoying his eyes. He tried sitting up, but found it a bit hard due to something laying next to him. He was able to sit up, he rubbed his eyes clear, and then looked around. All of a sudden, it all came back to him. Lynn. Night. Blood. The next thing he saw was people sitting at the dining table watching him. He looked down and saw...Olivia sleeping next to him?! Great, now he was in some trouble. At least now he knew why they were watching him.

He was still in his clothes from yesterday, so he would probably have to change them. He got off the couch slowly trying not to wake Olivia up. He casually strolled to the kitchen to make himself something to eat. He found some bananas, and started eating them. He looked up again to see Amber was still watching him like he had done something insane. At the table was Leenie, Amber, Emily, and Drew. He took an empty seat and sat down, trying to act like everything was normal, even though his mind was having a hard time processing everything that had happened. He got a bit annoyed, so he looked back at her and said "What?" in a slightly exasperated voice. Amber looked at him like he was crazy.

"Uh, Olivia, duh!" she gestured toward the couch with exasperation, "And what happened last night?!"

He sighed. This was going to be bigger than what it should have been. He began his story.

"Okay, just let me explain. I tracked Lynn all the way to a forest in the Faron region to the south. When I found her she was being attacked by monsters. She got some very bad injuries on her leg and her shoulder. By the time I brought her back here, it was early in the morning, and Olivia and Mayla were still awake. Since Lynn had fallen asleep on the way back, we brought her up to her room, cleaned her wounds, and bound her lacerations. Then I promptly came back down here, got on the couch, and fell asleep. I have no idea when or why she joined me there. Okay?"

He said that last part mostly to Amber to answer her question. She appeared to just go with it, but Jordan saw the hidden suspicion in her eyes. He told himself that he would deal with it later. But then Emily said something that made everything worse.

"I think you two looked cute together!"

That was exactly what he didn't want to hear. He tried not to show his frustration, but could feel his lips tighten and his left hand clenched into a fist. But he turned away and just said, "I'm going to go check up on Lynn."

And he got out of his seat and half-walked half-stomped up the stairs to her room. Olivia was still asleep on the couch, as was Ronny on the other one. He walked through the door and went over to open the window curtains. Now there was some light. Lynn was still asleep, though Jordan figured that wouldn't be the case for much longer. He checked up on her leg and let out a sigh of relief. After he had removed the dressing, he saw that the bleeding had stopped, and the cut seemed to be on the right path to recovery.

Lynn hadn't moved in her sleep all night, and that had kept everything in order. Now all they had to worry about was her mobility after waking up. He didn't have a new dressing with him, but he figured that some air would be good for the area. Then he checked the cut just under her collarbone. This one was looking even better. The cut must not have been too deep because there was already some real scabbing appearing on the cut. That was a very good sign. As he was examining, Lynn woke up and yawned.

"Jordan?"

"Yep, it's me." his mind was still trying to figure out what was happening inside of his head while he took care of Lynn.

"Oh...okay...Wait." she suddenly regained her spatial awareness, "I'm naked! Eeeek! Jordan, what are you doing?!"

"I am checking to make sure your injuries are healing right." he said matter-of-factly, "And you're covered by a blanket right now. We had to take your clothes off last night to make sure nothing got in the way while we fixed you up. Safety measures."
