Chapter 29: Surprises

"Heh. Only now do you realize what is around you. You fools are quite unobservant." The deep voice continued menacingly.

Jordan was slightly scared by this invisible voice. It obviously wasn't the goddess, and the voice sounded quite hostile. He didn't know where it was coming from, and that made it worse. But instead he feigned annoyance and sighed, "Alright, who are you and what do you want?"

Suddenly, five Yiga Clan soldiers appeared out of thin air in a line only a few paces from their little camp. There were four Yiga foot soldiers and one Yiga blademaster, who held a powerful magic katana that Jordan knew was called a windcleaver. The blademaster spoke again.

"We came here with two targets to kill. But it seems we might have the chance at even more..."

"Oh, I see. Well, I think you boys might be in for a bit of a surprise. You think you can defeat the hero of legend and me?" Jordan said, playing up his confident facade as best he could.

When the Yiga's body language tensed up like he had injured their ego, Jordan couldn't help but laugh. He held out his right hand in a taunting gesture. "Bring it."

The blademaster laughed. "You think too highly of yourself. But enough talk! Yiga! Attack!"

The battle began. While he was talking, Jordan had come up with a strategy. He immediately created a substitute of himself and turned into shadow all in the same split second, praying that no one noticed the set up. His substitute charged the Yiga blademaster, and they began to battle. Two Yiga foot soldiers attacked Link at the same time, and he quickly unsheathed his sword and began to duel. The other two went straight for Olivia and the newbies. Jordan created a water star in his hands and threw it at one of the soldiers. As the star left his hand it became visible again, but nobody noticed it until the footsoldier fell to the ground unable to walk because the star had sunk itself into his foot. The second soldier turned around, trying to find his comrade's attacker. Jordan snuck around him with his advanced shadow speed and put him in a headlock without being noticed.

Allison and Maria were hiding behind the fire, not really knowing what was going on. Oscar, Owen and Matt were trying to stay away from the fighting as best they could, and moving around the fire. They all looked in confusion at their Yiga attacker who seemed to be trying to fight off a ghost. Jordan made himself visible again and everyone gasped. With his left arm pinning the man, he created a sword of darkness in his right hand and slashed his opponent's hamstring. Hobbled, the Yiga could barely hold his own weight, so Jordan released him and he dropped to the ground.

The blademaster had noticed that he wasn't fighting the real Jordan, and so he attacked. He quickly dispatched the substitute with a blade of air before turning to the real Jordan and slammed his fist into the ground. A steaming hot vent appeared on the ground and started moving towards Jordan, tearing up the ground in its wake. Right before the vent got to him, Jordan shot water downwards, propelling him into the air in a quick burst. Massive stones exploded out of the steaming hole below him. While still in the air, Jordan created darkness blades in both of his hands and slashed downward at the blademaster while he fell. The blademaster prepared his windcleaver to block the attacks, but Jordan changed tack, dissolving the blades and instead started shooting scalding water at him. This allowed him to slow his descent, land without breaking anything, and burn his opponent, who roared in pain.

Before he could recover, Jordan summoned his blades of darkness, and slashed at his arms. There was a nasty crack, and one of the Yiga's muscular arms broke. Over where Link was fighting, the foot soldiers were losing ground, and one had lost his sickle. Link seemed perfectly fine, and hadn't lost any energy at all. The blademaster realized there was no more hope for a win. His arm was broken. Two of his soldiers were bleeding and couldn't walk. The other two were out matched. He yelled out in a raspy voice, "Yiga! Retreat!"
