29. Surprise Visits.
The hotel buzzed with the usual pre-match energy, but the atmosphere on the SRH team’s floor was about to get an extra jolt of excitement. Shubman, walked through the corridor, a mischievous grin playing on his lips. He was here to surprise his friend, Abhishek.
Shubman had managed to keep his visit a secret, and now, standing outside Abhishek's room, he could barely contain his excitement. He took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
Inside, Abhishek was sprawled on his bed. The knock startled him. "Who is it?" he called out, slightly annoyed at the interruption.
"Room service," Shubman called out in a disguised voice, suppressing a laugh.
Abhishek rolled his eyes and got up to open the door. As soon as the door swung open, Shubman burst into the room with a loud, "Surprise!"
Abhishek's eyes widened in shock, and then pure joy took over. "Shubman! What the hell!?" he exclaimed, wrapping his friend in a tight hug. "You didn’t tell me you were coming!"
Shubman laughed, returning the hug with equal enthusiasm. "I wanted to surprise you! It's been a month, yaar. Had to see your ugly face before we compete off on the field."
Abhishek pulled back, still grinning ear to ear. "Man, it's so good to see you. How's everything? How's GT?"
"Everything's great. We're ready to kick some SRH butt," Shubman teased, punching Abhishek lightly on the shoulder.
Abhishek laughed, shaking his head. "In your dreams, Gill. SRH is going to give you a run for your money."
They both collapsed onto the sofa, catching up on the past month. "You know, Abhi, I missed these talks. Phone calls just don’t cut it."
Abhishek nodded, his expression turning serious. "Yeah, I know what you mean. Things have been crazy here too. The team's been training hard."
Shubman glanced around the room. "You guys are looking good this season. But don’t think we’re going to go easy on you."
Abhishek smirked. "I wouldn’t expect anything less."
Shubman chuckled. "That's why I’m here, to remind you who the real champ is."
Abhishek laughed. "May the best team, which is SRH, win."
"Haa haa dekhenge," Shubman said smirking.
"Anyways. Since you’re here, why don’t we order some food and catch up properly? I’m starving."
Shubman grinned. "Sounds like a plan. I could use a good meal and some proper gossip."
They quickly called room service and ordered a spread of their favorite dishes.
While waiting for the food to arrive, they lounged on the sofa, picking up their conversation right where they left off.
