Chapter 29. Back-to-school Workday (Part 2)

Gao Xinglang, Guan Xuchen, Li Peiling, Cai Yunfei, Wu Yixin, and Feng Yuhua formed a group of six. After receiving their task from Cheng Xianchu, the class monitor, they grabbed their tools and headed to the front of the small auditorium to start cleaning. With nearly a month left before school commenced, everyone was still in holiday mode, enjoying a relaxed state of mind. Armed with brooms, they swept the ground while chatting and laughing from time to time.

As they swept, Cai Yunfei turned to the other two girls and said, "Ling, Xin, the 15th of this month is my birthday. Why don't you come to my house for a party?"

"Oh, sure, if you don't invite me, I'll cut you off," Li Peiling jested.

"Last time you came to my house and ate so much birthday cake; this time, it's my turn to 'get back' at you," Wu Yixin teased.

"Alright, alright, I'll save extra birthday cake for you then," Cai Yunfei replied with a grin, then called out to Guan Xuchen, who was a short distance away, "Guan Xuchen, my birthday is on the 15th of this month. Why don't you come to my house for a party?"

"The 15th?" Guan Xuchen thought for a moment, then replied with a hint of hesitation, "But I'll have to attend the English training class back at school on Tuesday morning..."

"Ah?" "You won't be able to make it?" Cai Yunfei was a little disappointed when she heard that, before she quickly added, "But my birthday party won't start until four in the afternoon..."

At this time, Feng Yuhua approached, his face beaming with a smile, and asked, "Cai Yunfei, may I also attend your birthday party?"

Cai Yunfei was taken aback for a brief moment, but she quickly recovered and responded with a warm smile, "Of course, you're also welcome to join us, Feng Yuhua."

Then Gao Xinglang sauntered over, grinning playfully, and said, "Since everyone's going, including Soupy, I want to go, too."

"Fei, are you sure you want to invite him?" Li Peiling interjected, her face etched with discontent, "He didn't even invite us to his birthday party last year."

Gao Xinglang didn't get angry, but just said smilingly, "For my last birthday, I only invited the guys from the basketball team. And Soupy didn't invite you to his birthday party either. So why are you inviting him now?"

"It's not that Guan Xuchen didn't invite us; he just didn't throw a birthday party." Disregarding Cai Yunfei's attempt to dissuade her, Li Peiling continued, "Besides, he used to jump rubber bands with us. We're not exactly close with you, are we?"

"Never mind then. Cai Yunfei, happy birthday in advance, " Gao Xinglang shrugged his shoulders and walked back to resume sweeping.

"You can come if you like. Just make sure to bring a bigger birthday present," Li Peiling called out to Gao Xinglang, then turned to Cai Yunfei beside her and said, "We should let him come over. If his present is too cheap, we'll tell everyone that the basketball captain is a cheapskate!"
