September 1, 1995, Friday. Gao Xinglang and Guan Xuchen returned to school together.
As they climbed the stairs, Gao Xinglang sighed, "Ah, Soupy, I never thought we'd be in Junior Three so soon." "Remember how great it was in Junior One. We were on the first floor and did not have to climb the stairs. Now, in Junior Three, we're up on the third floor."
Beside him, Guan Xuchen chuckled and said, "Lang, next year when we're in Senior One, we'll have to climb to the sixth floor!"
"The school's arrangement is strange: Senior One students are on the sixth floor, while Senior Three students are on the fourth floor..." Gao Xinglang shook his head in bewilderment and continued, "But I might not even be back at Xiaoda for Senior One. So it doesn't really matter."
"Lang, why would you say that? Your current grades are more than good enough for the senior section of Xiaoda." Guan Xuchen, tugging at Gao Xinglang's arm, spoke urgently, "You have to promise me that you'll strive to stay in Xiaoda for senior middle school!"
"Alright, alright, I'll do my best," Gao Xinglang offered a wry smile. At that moment, he noticed that the watch Guan Xuchen was wearing seemed different. So he asked out of curiosity, "Soupy, why aren't you wearing the watch I gave you? Did it break so soon?"
"No, this is the one you gave me," Guan Xuchen extended his hand to show Gao Xinglang the watch on his wrist. With a smile, he added, "I thought the original color was a bit dull, so I found some cartoon stickers and put them on. Lang, look, isn't it adorable?"
Gao Xinglang glanced at the cartoon stickers of kittens and puppies on Guan Xuchen's watch, furrowing his brow as he commented, "I've seen girls put these stickers on their pencil boxes or schoolbags. But it seems a bit odd for a boy to do the same."
"Oh," Guan Xuchen retracted his hand with a hint of disappointment, then excitedly pulled out a magazine-like book from his bag. He presented it to Gao Xinglang and said excitedly, "Lang, look, Aaron Kwok's limited edition photo album, I've finally got it!"
Gao Xinglang took the photo album, flipped through a few pages nonchalantly, and remarked with a flat tone, "Well, it's quite nice."
He then handed the photo album back. As Guan Xuchen was about to take it back, Ao Feifan dashed out of the classroom, snatched the album, and sprinted towards the other end of the corridor, flipping through the pages and laughing uproariously.
"Ao Feifan, give me back my book!" Guan Xuchen chased after Ao Feifan, shouting angrily.
"Bro Feifan, do you want a smack? Give the book back to Soupy!" Gao Xinglang also chased after him and roared.
Ao Feifan reached the end of the corridor and raced up the stairs to the fourth floor. Seeing this, Gao Xinglang gestured for Guan Xuchen to go up the stairs on the other side, while he himself continued to chase after Ao Feifan.
Gao Xinglang and Guan Xuchen, coming up from both sides, managed to intercept Ao Feifan on the fourth floor.
Seeing that he had nowhere to go, Ao Feifan returned the photo album to Guan Xuchen with a mischievous grin, "Men like looking at women, and women like looking at men. Why would you like looking at men?"
"None of your business..." Guan Xuchen blushed and protested weakly.
"Ao Feifan, you're asking for a beating on the first day of school. Apologize to Soupy now!" Gao Xinglang angrily grabbed Ao Feifan by the collar and raised his fist in a threatening manner.
Unfazed, Ao Feifan blocked Gao Xinglang's fist with his right hand, smirking, "Soupy, Soupy, how endearingly you call him. No wonder people say you're Guan Xuchen's 'boyfriend'!"
