July 12, 1996, Friday.

Guan Xuchen and Gao Xinglang returned to the classroom in the afternoon to find many of their classmates of Class 6, Junior Three already back.

"What do you think, Prince Lang? Are you confident you can stay at Xiaoda and continue to be my classmate?" Ao Feifan approached with a playful grin.

"I think I aced the exams, but I'm worried that you didn't do as well, Bro Feifan," Gao Xinglang shot back with a hearty laugh.

"I hope Lang—and Bro Feifan—you both did well and can continue at Xiaoda for senior middle school," Guan Xuchen said with a gentle smile, adding, "It'd be great if we could stay in the same class for another three years."

"You're already guaranteed admission, so it's no sweat for you," Ao Feifan said with a touch of irritation. He then teased, "You just want to stay in the same class as Prince Lang, don't you?"

At this, Guan Xuchen lowered his head and fell silent.

Noticing this, Gao Xinglang smirked at Ao Feifan and said, "Bro Feifan, you're always so sharp-tongued. I don't want to be in the same class as you again."

"Fine by me. No skin off my nose. I don't want to share a class with you either!" Ao Feifan shrugged nonchalantly and walked away.

"Fanfan, don't be mad at me!" Gao Xinglang called out teasingly to Ao Feifan's retreating back. He then turned to Guan Xuchen with a grin, "Soupy, do you really want to be in the same class as Ao Feifan again in senior middle school?"

"Uh..." Guan Xuchen glanced at Ao Feifan, who had already taken his seat, managed a wry smile, and remained silent.

Gao Xinglang was just about to return to his seat when Li Peiling and Cai Yunfei approached.

"Gao Xinglang, how did your exams go?" Li Peiling asked. "If you don't make it back into Xiaoda for senior middle school, I won't let you off the hook!"

Though her tone was sharp, her face bore a friendly smile.

Gao Xinglang grinned in response, "Li Peiling, how about you? What if I stay at Xiaoda, but you end up at another school?

"Go away, you jinx!" Li Peiling shot back, her smile vanishing as she grew visibly annoyed.

"Don't worry, Ling," Cai Yunfei, who was standing next, comforted her. Cai cast a glance at Guan Xuchen with a smile, and said, "I'm sure all four of us can stay at Xiaoda, hopefully in the same class, so we can stay as classmates."

"Fei, you and Guan Xuchen are both guaranteed admission; of course you're not worried," Li Peiling said with a furrowed brow, "But I think I messed up maths and chemistry..."

"You usually ranked higher than me in exams, so why worry?" Gao Xinglang lightly tapped his lips, then flashed a reassuring smile at Li Peiling, "I was being a jinx just now, talking nonsense. You'll definitely stay at Xiaoda."

"Really? Thank you for that." Li Peiling's face brightened up.

Just then, Wang Yuemei, their head teacher, entered the classroom with a stack of report cards, her face beaming with a smile. In a gentle tone, she said to the students, "Alright, everyone, back to your seats. I'm about to hand out the results of the senior middle school entrance exams."

The students, who had been huddled in small groups, quickly dispersed and returned to their seats. They sat up straight, their eyes fixed eagerly on Miss Wang—or more accurately, on the report cards in her hands—anxiously awaiting the numbers that would shape their futures.
