July 15, 2000, Saturday Gao Xinglang and Guan Xuchen were on the bus to Zhongliu Computer Mall.

"Lang, is Fan Yueming still upset with you?" Guan Xuchen asked with a concerned look.

"I don't know..." Gao Xinglang replied helplessly. "She went back to Foshan without a word right after her exams. I called her, but she hung up after just a few words..."

"Well, Foshan's so close to Guangzhou. Why don't you go to Foshan in a couple of days to talk things out with her?" Guan Xuchen suggested.

"But I've already apologized and given her a gift. I just don't know how to cheer her up..." Gao Xinglang trailed off, looking dejected. "Forget it, maybe it's better if we both cool off for a while."

Seeing Gao Xinglang like this, Guan Xuchen felt down too. But he couldn't think of a way to help Gao Xinglang right away, so he just comforted him, "After not seeing you for a month or two, she'll realize how good you are to her." Maybe when we go back to college after the summer vacation, she'll come to you on her own."

"I'm here to help you buy a computer today, so let's not talk about her for now." Gao Xinglang said in a carefree tone, then smiled and asked, "Soupy, have you decided what kind of computer you want to buy?"

"Actually, I'm not really sure. I just need one that's good enough for studying..." Guan Xuchen replied with a grin. "That's why I asked you to come along as my advisor."

"No problem. I know a thing or two about computers." Gao Xinglang patted his chest confidently and said, "Later, I'll help you pick the one with the best value for money."

The two arrived at Zhongliu Computer City and browsed through all the computer shops on the first and second floors. After looking around, Guan Xuchen pulled Gao Xinglang aside, looking troubled, and said, "Lang, why are the computers here so expensive? Even the cheapest ones cost six or seven thousand yuan... Mom and Dad work so hard to earn money. Maybe I should just buy a DYI computer like Lv Runfa did—it's less than five thousand yuan."

"A DYI computer for less than five thousand yuan? The specs must be pretty bad." Gao Xinglang looked shocked, then explained, "Brand-name computers are a bit more expensive, but they're much better in performance and more durable."

Seeing that Guan Xuchen was still hesitant, he smiled and said, "Uncle and Aunt specifically told me to help you pick a good one." I need to do my job well. If you really don't have enough money, I can lend you some first."

"Thank you, Lang. I have enough money for a 'DDL' or a 'Happy' computer..." Guan Xuchen still couldn't make up his mind. "But which one do you think is better—the 'DDL' or the 'Happy'?"

"I think we should go with the 'Happy'," Gao Xinglang thought for a moment and made the final decision. He then explained in detail, "Both have a Pentium 667 CPU, 64MB of RAM, and a 15GB hard drive. But the 'Happy' has a SIS630 motherboard, which is better than the i810 in the 'DDL'." Besides, the 'Happy' also comes with a printer. So even though the 'Happy' is over four hundred yuan more expensive, it's still a better deal than the 'DDL'."

"Alright, I'll take your advice and buy a 'Happy' computer. The furrow on Guan Xuchen's brow smoothed out, and a smile reappeared on his face.

"Let's go then, Master Guan." Gao Xinglang said, putting his hand on Guan Xuchen's shoulder, and then the two walked towards the 'Happy' computer shop, chatting and laughing along the way.

Guan Xuchen paid at the shop and made an appointment with the boss for delivery the next day. After getting everything done, Guan Xuchen said with a relaxed look, "Alright, it's finally sorted out. Lang, let me treat you to something to eat."
