HAILEY'S POV
Mum got delivered of a very cute baby boy and we all called him Alex. It's been a week since we returned from the hospital and I'm in her bedroom while we argue on whether or not we need a nanny.
"Mum I can take care of you and my baby brother okay? I doubt if we really need some nanny around" I tell her.
"Alright fine! But I'm not promising not getting one in the future. I can't afford to stress you" she says and I sigh. Taking care of my long awaited baby sibling is definitely not stress to me.
"That's by the way. Remember uncle Kenechukwu? Your dad's younger brother?" She asked and I nod. He's also staying in UK unlike my other paternal family back home in Africa.
"What about him?" I ask wondering why she suddenly brought him up.
"He's coming over with Auntie Amanda tomorrow!" She said in excitement and I grin happily.
"Are you freaking kidding me right now!"
"I'm not baby girl. I actually wanted it to be a surprise but I guess I couldn't just wait." She says and I chuckle.
"Your auntie Amanda talked about taking care of me during my maternity leave and I can't be more grateful. She's really nice".
"Awwwww! That's so sweet. I miss them all. I also miss my cousins back home in Nigeria. I can't even remember the last time I went back there" I tell her and she nods in understanding.
"I was wondering if we could spend the Christmas holiday there though. Y'know since your uncle will be returning for business. Besides my mother in law needs to meet her grand son."
"Wow! I'm so excited mum. I can't wait for these silly exams to be over. I'm sick and tired of high school already" I groaned and she laughed.
"But I've been wondering why your granny won't agree in coming over? I've tried pleading with her to at least spend a week here but she declined"
"She's just too dramatic I know" I added and Evelyn burst into laughter. My grandparents totally won't agree on visiting because they claim the cold will kill them or some other random excuses. They just love their motherland so much I guess.
"Well I love Nigerian foods and carnivals. It's so fun there and I love adventure." She giggled. She had visited my grandparents in Nigeria even before she got married to dad, I never got to know about that till after my father's death though.
Speaking of dad, I wish he's still around. Baby Alex is a total Replica of him just that he's fair skinned and has a lot of hair. I believe all will be fine and I can't wait to have my favorite uncle here tomorrow! I just pray the trip to Nigeria works out though.
_____________*..*___________
It's been a week since Aunt Amanda and Uncle Kene visited and it's been a whole lot of fun. She makes African dishes for us and takes care of baby Alex too. My uncle on his part never failed to entertain us, he was a natural clown and has a wonderful sense of humor.
Mira had informed me earlier that they would be coming to pay me a visit, more like pay my cute baby a visit so I have to look presentable right?
That's because Jayden's coming! My subconscious mind teased me and I shrugged.
I remember dying my hair blonde last week just to impress Jayden and I swear I looked like a clown. I had to use all the hair essentials I knew of to wash it off after which I stuck to wigs throughout the week. Right now I quit trying to impress someone who would never look my way for obvious reasons. Tsk!
I stare at myself in the mirror, I had an ankle length grey bodycon short sleeve gown which had a hood. It hugged my curves quite alright and I can swear I look stunning. I brush my hair and realize the dye hasn't completely washed off. I make a mental note to always research on a product before making use of it. I had to cover my hair with the hood though.
I walk down the stairs and I meet auntie Amanda singing a lullaby for Alex. I had to pause a second to choose my greetings. Last time I greeted her with just a casual "hi" she gave me an hour length lecture on why children trained abroad are mannerless and lack respect for elders. According to her it should be good afternoon, good morning or good day depending on the case and of course not forgetting to add the formalities like Sir or ma. It was the most boring one hour of my life but I'll have to endure it though. Apart from her overly religious and uptight self she's really a lovely woman so I can deal with the cons.
"Good afternoon Aunt Amanda" I greet with a smile and she returned the greeting with a cheerful smile matching mine.
"Are your friends still coming?" She asked.
"Yeah they still are. But I think that's going to be some minutes later.
"Alright. Ehen please help me change this movie. I don't understand what they're saying here. Their English is way too fast, only God knows where they're running to. Not like anyone is dragging words with them" she complains with a hiss and I stiffle a chuckle. I actually have a British accent so it was easier to just go slow while talking to her but the way things are going I doubt if she'll grab a single thing Mira says when they eventually come here. Evelyn has her own troubles too. She literally has to repeat almost every single sentence to Aunt Amanda and even uncle Kene finds it amusing but the woman in front of me doesn't even have the slightest care in the world. They got married few months ago and she joined him here so it's not her fault though.
"What would you like to watch?" I ask her.
"Just put a correct Nigerian movie for me please. Maybe African Magic epic or Urban or?" Alright now I'm lost.
"Ma?" I asked confused.
"You people don't have DSTV too? This abroad is just dry sef." She muttered under her breath and I shook my head. This woman is really a handful.
"I'll check out a movie on Netflix for you. You'll love it" I tell her and she shook her head.
"What about YouTube? All these Netflix movies are dry" Take that back ma'am! I scream in my head.
"Alright. I'll just go get my laptop upstairs. Besides my favorite crime series will be starting in few minutes" I say to her with a smile and with the look on her face I wished I could take that back.
"Crime series ke?" She asks narrowing her gaze at me and I sighed in frustration.
"No no not that way. I mean like action movies" I say to her. I can't survive another lecture from her obviously!
"Hmmmm beware of what you watch ooo! All these movies are not good for children like you. Me I've said my mind shaaa. Don't say I didn't tell you" she chastised and I fought the urge to roll myself. Not like it's porn though. Most times I wonder if this woman has been living under a rock.
Uncle Kene entered the sitting room and I gave him a side hug.
"Hey K!"
"Hailey what's up! how're you doing?"
"I'm cool. What's up with you?" I ask and he tells me he's doing just great too. I love uncle Kene alot. He understands me and isn't as local as his wife. We're also very and our relationship is just the best.
A knock is heard on the door.
"I think your friends are here" he tells me and I go over to open the door for them.
I pulled Mira in for a hug and did same for Andriano but then my eyes caught Jayden's, he was staring intently at me.
"You look hot!" He whispered with a wink and I blushed.
