"Why?" Y/N questioned, narrowing her gaze. Jeff opened his mouth to speak, but it was interrupted by a knock at the door. Jeff groaned in annoyance as Toby opened the bedroom door, opening inside.

"What?" Jeff snapped, eyeing Toby angrily.

"I was just.... Just wondering if anyone was going to get dinner." Toby replied, pulling his orange goggles to hang around his neck.

Jeff shook his head, finding it stupid that Toby would even ask.

Y/N looked at Jeff, then at Toby, before an idea sprouted in her head.

"I can cook." She said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. Toby perked up with an excited gasp, and a look of annoyance crossed Jeff's expression.

"Would you??! I haven't eaten in days!" Toby reached into the room, grabbing her wrist and pulling her along.

Y/N jumped slightly but followed after, relieved she could get away from Jeff for a while.

"Yeah, I can cook decently." She said, following him out to the kitchen. Jeff's footsteps trailed behind them, which made her feel a bit uneasy.

Toby sat at the kitchen table, putting his cheeks in his palms with his elbows on the table.

Y/N blinked, baffled by the sudden switch from angry madman to hungry manchild. She looked around the kitchen before opening up the cabinets.

Jeff sat across the table from Toby, giving him a death glare.

"Do you even have any food here?" Y/N asked, still a little woozy as she looked over the cans and jars. She pulled out a container of uncooked pasta.

"I dunno," Toby shrugged.

Jeff crossed his arms.

"The last time Tobes tried to cook, he burnt the water." Jeff joked.

Toby frowned, crossing his arms on the table.

"It's not my fault! I didn't know the water was laced with ethanol!" He pouted.

Y/N chuckled, opening the fridge. She was immediately overwhelmed with the pungent smell of rot. She scowled and shut the fridge.

Toby looked over, sitting up.

"Oh, yeah, I think Jack put his stuff in there." Toby said before starting to bicker with Jeff again. Y/N knew what Toby meant by stuff; it made everything so much more repulsive.

"I need some more ingredients to actually make something." She said to them, glancing at the pasta.

Jeff looked up before standing.

"Write a list; I can run to the store really quick." He said, pulling a crumpled paper and a pen from a drawer and pushing it across the counter. "I need a break from the house anyway."

Y/N looked at the paper before scribbling down a few things that she could think of. Jeff took the paper and shoved it into his pocket. He popped a cigarette between his teeth before looking at Toby.

"Don't let her leave." He said bitterly before turning and going out the back door.

Toby looked at Y/N before staring down at his sleeves, fiddling with the fabric. Y/N leaned against the counter before glancing at the fridge.

"Do you know where EJ is?" She asked in a mix of fear and curiosity.

Toby glanced up at her before shrugging, suddenly seeming more shy about the topic.

"I don't know; I think he's out patrolling." He said, staring at his bandaged hands.

Y/N smiled slightly but brushed away the suspicion for a second.

"Jeff told me he's pretty scary," Y/N shrugged, turning her head to look out the window.

Toby looked up at her again, his thick eyebrows a bit furrowed.

"He's not that bad. He's our medic." Toby defended, picking at his bandage anxiously.

"Jeff told me he was attacked by him." Y/N said, walking over to sit in a chair near Toby.

Toby shook his head.

"Jeff antagonized him." Toby said shortly.

"You seem awfully defensive of Jack's name." She said, resting her head in her palm.

Toby's jaw dropped slightly, and he shook his head.

"I-I am not! I'm just telling the truth." He frowned.

Y/N giggled.

Toby huffed, annoyed.

"Why are you laughing?!" He asked, gritting his teeth.

"Because! It's obvious you have a thing for him." She smiled, leaning back in her seat.

Toby's frustration quickly melted into a puddle, and his pale cheeks grew rosy with embarrassment.

"No, I don't! Who told you that?!" Toby said, glancing around anxiously.

She laughed again.

"I assumed you had a little crush." She said plainly.

Toby shook his head vigorously.

"No! No! No! No!" He said, panicked, holding his head in his hands and staring at the table.

Y/N was about to reach out to comfort him but stopped and offered words instead.

"Toby, I—I mean, Tobias," she started, "I won't tell anyone, I promise."

He peeked up at her, his face red enough to look like he was suffocating.

"You promise?" He mumbled.

Y/N nodded, and Toby sighed, rubbing his face with his hands.

"Okay," he muttered, "maybe a little bit." He said, the corner of his mouth quirking into a smile.

Y/N squealed giddily, and Toby pulled his hoodie collar over his face to hide his blush.

"Shut up." He said, glancing away.

Y/N caught the uncertainty in his gaze, and she paused, tilting her head.

"There's nothing bad about liking him. Do you know if he feels the same?" Y/N asked.

Toby shook his head, slouching in his chair.

"No, I..." He leaned his head back, staring at the ceiling. "I don't think it'd work out anyway..."

Y/N's expression softened.

"Don't say that..." she said.

"It's true..." He said quietly.

Y/N shook her head.

"I say you should just go for it." Y/N said, crossing her arms firmly.

"How do I know if he would even look my way twice!?" He said, tossing his arms in the air like a pouty child.

"I'm sure he would. I know he would." Y/N smiled.

Toby was about to rebut, but the door jiggled, and Jeff walked in, carrying a plastic grocery bag.

"I got the shit." Jeff said blatantly, putting the bag on the counter.

Toby's face paled as he glanced away, trying to act casually.

Y/N stood up, going over to the bag and looking through the stuff.

"This is good." She said, unpacking it.

She turned away, trying to stifle the growing smile from the news that Toby just dropped. If that was true here, that means it must be true back at her universe.
