"your absence, by far, is the heaviest weight i've ever had to carry" -unknown _____________________________
"Sasuke!" Satoru shouted, his body suddenly jolting upwards and out of sleep.
"Don't bother. I failed. I couldn't bring Sasuke back."
The Sasuke retrieval squad chased after the Uchiha for two and a half days. Every member of the six person squad suffering life threatening or nearly life threatening injuries. Satoru being among them.
Naruto and Satoru were placed in the same hospital room after they were found unconscious and brought back to the Hidden Lead Village.
"Naruto..." Satoru whispered out, his voice laced with disappointment, no matter how hard he tried to hide it. He would've thought his eyes would fill with tears, but there was nothing. It seemed he cried all he could cry the past few days. He looked over to Naruto, seeing his usually bright blue eyes looking dull and filled with sadness.
"So you two are finally awake, huh?" Shikamaru said, walking into the room.
"Shikamaru!" Naruto shouted, a small smile managing to make its way across the boys face.
Shikamaru walked over to Naruto's bed, taking a seat on the edge. "Tsunade and the rest of the Lead Medical Ninja made sure everyone's going to make it."
"I see... So everybody's okay. That's good." Naruto said.
"So Sasuke is..?"
"Yeah, he's gone."
Satoru didn't say anything. He just clenched his fists and squeezed his eyes shut tightly. It's all his fault. If he hadn't been stopped by the Sound Ninja escorting Sasuke to Orochimaru, maybe he could've reached the Uchiha. He could have brought him back. He could've proved his strength to Sasuke. Made him see that he can obtain power by staying in the Leaf Village. But he couldn't.
Then, the door swung open and Tsunade and Sakura walked through.
"Naruto... Satoru..." Sakura whispered out.
"I heard you both had some pretty serious injuries. You seem to be doing well considering." Tsunade said.
"I'm sorry, Sakura. I promised to bring him back." Naruto said.
"Sorry? What have you got to be sorry about?" Sakura said with a smile, although her voice was still laced with sadness. "Lemme guess, being you, you probably went and got all reckless. I bet Satoru had to save your butt! You at you now, all wrapped up. You're like a mummy!" She said, walking over to the window beside Naruto's bed.
