Music played loudly throughout the bedroom as Sean sat on his bed. He looked up as he blew the smoke out of his mouth and watched as it clouded over him before it evaporated into the cool air. He left the window open to keep the smell from overwhelming the room. He'd been sitting in his bedroom smoking away the day, and he didn't feel like getting up.

"Sean?"

"Sean?"

Reaching over for his phone behind him, he turned off the music.

"Yeah?"

"What's going on? Open the door." His mother called out from the other side of his bedroom door.

Quickly, he grabbed his room spray on his desk and sprayed a bit around his room. He closed his window and made his way towards the door. He plopped back onto the bed and placed what he'd been smoking in his nightstand.

Jennifer pushed her way inside the room and stared down at the shirt on the floor that stopped her from coming in.

"Oh, my bad."

Sean jumped off the bed and moved the t-shirt from the door. She pushed open the door and walked further into the room.

"Are you gonna eat something? I made lunch."

"I'm alright," He shrugged.

She frowned and sat next to him on the bed. "What's going on with you? I haven't seen you come downstairs for the past few days. That's not like you."

Sean involuntarily closed himself off from his surroundings. He barely went to work and only went to school for a few hours. He couldn't stop thinking about what went down during prom night. He felt like he was at a loss. He'd never been vulnerable with someone the way he was with Nyla. He enjoyed being in her presence and couldn't believe that things took a turn so quickly.

She'd been lying about many things while he was able to be honest with her about everything.

"I know that you told me about what happened with Nyla. But, you can't let that affect your lifestyle." She sighed heavily. "I am taking into consideration that you're still a teenager who's experiencing their first heartbreak, but I don't like seeing you like this."

"I'm not heartbroken," He said in denial.

Jennifer gave him a knowing look and rubbed his back.

"How about ... you get some sun today? Go out and hang with your friends or something. Jared's in his room with a girl and thinks I don't know about it."

Sean chuckled and shook his head.

"Find your friends," Jennifer shook him.

"Fine."

He wanted to be around his friends, but he couldn't help but feel embarrassed. They were present when everything went down and they also knew how Sean felt about her. He felt embarrassed that everyone knew he'd been blindsided.
