The sound of the kitchen utensils clinking against the plates was all that was heard in the kitchen as Yazmin and Sean sat across from each other. Sean looked over at her and watched her hands shake. She placed the fork onto the plate and sighed heavily.

"What does she want?"

"Maybe she wants to talk."

Yazmin rolled her eyes and looked down at her half empty plate. Sean continued to reassure her that things would go right and that he was there for her, but he was positive that it'd gone through one ear and out the other. This was a big thing for her. It was as if her mother seemed to be surrendering to their behaviour.

"I think she wants me to go home with her after we talk."

"Are you comfortable with that?"

"Not really. I'm still not ready to be around my dad."

"And, you don't have to be. You can always stay here until you're ready. You heard my parents, right?"

"Yeah."

Yazmin snapped her head over to her phone vibrating profusely on the counter. Hesitantly, she grabbed it, swiped the screen and held the phone to her ear.

"Hello?"

"I'm outside."

"Okay, I'm coming."

She hung up and tucked her phone into her pocket.

"She's outside."

"Alright, I'll be here if you need me."

Sean didn't feel comfortable letting Sohpia into his house after everything that happened between them. He wasn't willing to compromise his comfortability for her parents and Yazmin didn't want him to.

Wrapping his arms around her, he squeezed her tightly and kissed her forehead.

Her lips frowned into a pout as she released herself from his grip and walked out of the house. She gasped and held her hand against her chest when she noticed her mother was standing right in front of her.

"I thought we were going to speak inside," Sophia said. She tried to get a view of the inside of the home before Yazmin closed the door.

"I don't think that's necessary." Yazmin looked around the front of the house with confusion. She frowned, "Where's Curtis?"

"I came alone," Sophia said.

The young girl pointed to the patio set on the porch and sat down on one of the chairs. With caution, Sophia walked over and wiped her seat before she sat down. She rested her purse onto the handle of the chair.

"What'd you wanna speak to me about?"

"The night of your graduation party just hasn't sat well with me for the past few days. Seeing you walk out like that didn't make me feel good at all. I'm so sorry for not being there for you as much as I should be."
