It was seven on the dot when Regina heard a knock on her apartment door. The ingredients were all laid out and ready on her kitchen island as she tied the strings on her apron around her waist tightly. She heard another knock on the door before she rushed over to swing the door open.
"Hey, Regina! Are you ready for our weekly dinner trade?" Robin asked as he held up the takeout bag he had in his hands.
"Do you mean your weekly shame session?" Regina asked back, and Robin let out a deep chuckle. She was getting used to hearing that sound.
A few months ago, Regina realized that her noisy next-door neighbor, Robin, always had people knocking on his door. It was always takeout, and she never saw the man buy a single bag of groceries. It was one day, she intercepted the pizza delivery man and knocked on her neighbor's door herself. She asked him about the lack of healthy food in his diet, and the man had the nerve to laugh in her face.
Somehow, this ended up in the weekly food meetings they had. Robin would bring over a bag of greasy takeout food, and she would introduce him to a new healthy recipe. They became friendly and had a healthy banter going back and forth between the two. Regina couldn't deny the attraction she felt towards him, but she didn't want to ruin the friendship they had.
"A beautiful woman who shames me once a week. What more could a man ask for?" Robin quipped as he placed a kiss on her cheek and walked into the kitchen.
Regina sighed to herself as she closed the front door of her apartment. It was times like this that she found it harder to keep her feelings to herself. Robin made it easy for her to fall for him, but she wasn't too sure that he had the same feelings.
"What are we cooking lovely?" Robin called from the kitchen. "Gross, is this asparagus? What the hell is this for?"
Regina laughed as she shook her head and made her way back into the kitchen. She rounded the corner to see Robin frowning as he held up the bunch of asparagus she had sitting on the counter. She laughed again when she took it from him.
"We're making a honey-glazed salmon, scalloped potatoes, and roasting the asparagus," Regina said with a proud smile on her face.
"How can potatoes be scalloped when they're a vegetable and scallops are a seafood?"
"Just put your apron on," Regina said with a groan as she threw his apron at him.
"It was a serious question!" He said as he put on his apron. The apron that he kept over at her apartment was a red plaid one that she bought him the second month they had done this. She loved how his eyes lit up when he wore any kind of plaid.
"Are you smiling at my handsome good look?" Robin asked, which made Regina shake her head and get out of her thoughts.
"No, funny enough, I'm smiling at how stupid you can be," Regina said quickly. "What did you end up bringing to the party?"
Robin grinned, showing off his dimples, as he opened up the greasy bag, he plopped onto her kitchen counter. He tore open the paper bag and pulled out a white styrofoam container.
"My fair lady, I present to you..." Robin said as he opened the container. "...the best mozzarella sticks in all of Storybrooke!"
"They're from Granny's, aren't they?"
"No. These bad boys are from Friar Fat Boys' fast food restaurant. It's the cheapest cheese they could find, battered in all of the carbs and spicy goodness, and then triple fried in the fattest oil. It's heaven."
"The smell alone is clogging my arteries," Regina said as she playfully pinched her nose so she couldn't smell anything.
"Try one," Robin said as he held out the container for her.
