DINNER that night was awkward.
After Tengen had left, Kyojuro still didn't look at (Y/N) fully. So, that evening, the silence was tense and just a tad bit stifling. Going to bed, she tried to reason with herself that everything would be fine soon, and that Kyojuro would be back to normal. So, that next morning, she trained as usual, unaware that he was secretly watching her, trying to gain his bearings and forget what Tengen had told him.
Unfortunately, it wasn't as easy as he thought, for he found himself drifting back to the training grounds again and again.
She was stunning.
He had realized it before, but never like this.
He couldn't help but admire her strong form, the determination in her eyes, the way she moved so lithely as if she were lighter than air. Just like the previous day, he found his heart pounding so erratically it physically pained him. Clutching his chest and trying to swallow down the intense emotions he was feeling, his attention was soon drawn away from his own ailments to the crowing of a Kasugai crow that came to land on the ground beside (Y/N).
"Head North-Northwest!" Jun cawed. "Head North-Northwest! To the city of Fujinomiya! Rumors of several high-class men and women being devoured by a demon abound. Head North-Northwest!"
"Another mission, huh?" (Y/N) sighed as she dabbed at her sweat with a cloth. "Man, they really don't give us any time to rest, do they?"
Jun just cawed at her again before taking flight.
As (Y/N) chuckled with a shake of her head at the bird, gathering the equipment she used to put it away, she didn't realize how forlorn Kyojuro was at the news of her departure once again. More so than usual, as he had now come to terms that she was far more important to him than he ever realized. So, as he bid her goodbye when it came time for her to leave, he let his gaze rest on the ground, not wishing for her to see the disappointment in his eyes.
"Kyojuro?" (Y/N) murmured softly, her hands brushing against his.
His breath hitched at that.
"I promise I'll be okay, and that I'll return."
Slowly, he nodded.
And, as she turned her back to him to start her journey, his gaze slid up to watch her depart, his expression full of nothing but longing.
