WELCOME, (L/N) (Y/N)
"HUNGRY?" Tengen asked upon arriving in the city of Asahi, the surroundings looking quite a bit like Fujinomiya, the last city (Y/N) had visited where she had rencountered Muzan. "It will be a few hours until the sun sets, so before we start investigating, it would be better if we had something to eat.""Yeah, that sounds good," (Y/N) nodded, her eyes widening upon her stomach growling.
Tengen chuckled.
She looked away, embarrassed.
Tengen led her to a nice restaurant where they both ordered some curry and rice. It would be a filling meal that would allow them to have the energy they needed to both track down and slay the demon. The two ate in silence for a moment, as both were collecting their thoughts and strategizing about the upcoming battle. Finally, though, Tengen glanced up at (Y/N), noticing how concentrated she seemed on a simple bowl of curry and rice, and decided that it would be better to break the silence and ease her nerves—at least just a little, if he could.
"Did the curry wrong you in some way?" Tengen hummed as he propped his head up, his smile teasing the longer he stared at her.
"Huh?" She blinked, snapped out of her focus.
"The curry," he nodded his head down at her dish. "Did it do something bad? You're glaring at it as if wanting to burn a hole through it. That means it must've done something wrong, no?"
"No, I'm just... thinking," she mumbled.
"About?"
"Well, the demon, for one."
"Why?"
"Why?" She frowned at the question. "How could I not? I mean... if they sent a Hashira to deal with it, it's strong."
"So?" Tengen shrugged.
"So, it means... I might not be strong enough," she admitted with a heavy sigh.
Yeah...
I still need to get stronger.
I do feel a bit different after training with Tengen, but I don't think it's enough. After what happened with Kokushibo and that lizard demon, I can't just keep going in blind.
In this world, I'll die if I do so.
"Hey," Tengen uttered, rapping his knuckles against the table's surface to capture (Y/N)'s attention again, his gaze intense when she finally looked back up. "Don't think those kinds of thoughts. It won't help you in the middle of a battle, and will likely get you killed. Instead of thinking 'I might not be strong enough', you have to tell yourself 'I need to keep fighting'." He leaned forward slightly, his voice lowering as he continued, "To keep fighting means to keep moving forward instead of looking back at your failures because you weren't 'strong enough'. You need to remember this, (L/N), understood?"
