WELCOME, (L/N) (Y/N)
"SO the demon just fled, huh?" Tengen muttered as he looked outwards down the alleyway, his hands propped on his hips whilst his expression tightened into one of disgruntlement. "Strange. As much as I hate to say it, demons don't act like that—they don't allow mercy. Did it say anything to you before knocking you unconscious?""Yeah," (Y/N) sighed. "He has a code: he doesn't fight nor kill women."
"A 'code'?" Tengen scoffed. "I've encountered many demons, but I've never heard of a demon with supposed 'morals' like that. An Upper Rank?"
"Three, to be precise."
"Hm..." he rubbed his chin with a hum, pondering over what his next course of action should be. "Well, it's likely he's long gone, and we can't just follow him since we don't know where he's gone. Though... the fact that an Upper Rank got away is concerning."
"So... what do we do now?"
"I'm not sure," he muttered, obviously very displeased with himself. "I'll send a letter to Oyakata-Sama explaining the situation."
"Understood," she nodded.
With the sun rising, the two ventured back towards the same restaurant that they had visited prior to their mission. While (Y/N) ate breakfast, Tengen crafted a letter for Kagaya whilst his Kasugai crow waited faithfully nearby, ready to deliver it at a moment's notice. As (Y/N) ate, her mind was consumed with many things, mainly concerning her conversation with Akaza. There was something about the look in his eyes that made her pause--in hindsight, it almost looked as if he were truly taking her words to heart.
It was an impossibility, she knew.
But, all the same, she continued to wonder.
"Well," Tengen sighed as he waved his crow off with his letter, taking (Y/N) away from her string of mostly incoherent thoughts. "I guess that's that... it's a shame this mission ended in failure, but I'd rather have that than another death."
"Yeah..." (Y/N) murmured with a nod.
Then, her brows quirked in slight puzzlement.
That's right...
This mission was a failure, so... why hasn't the system said anything yet?
Hm.
Strange.
"What're you thinking about?" Tengen hummed as he propped his head up with his hand, staring down at her through lidded eyes since, even while sitting, he was still a good bit taller than her. "You look worried."
"Oh, yeah... I suppose I am," she sighed as she leaned back in her chair, using her chopsticks to move her food around a bit in contemplation. "I mean, I feel like I failed the most on this mission. I let an Upper Moon escape. I know he was far more powerful than me, but I could've at least tried to do something... now someone else might be dead right now because of my mistake."
