SkyBird swooped down and caught me. Using her wings as a parachute. We slowly landed on some rocks near the water. I felt empty and in pain. SkyBird had tears streaming down her face. Connor swooped down after a few minutes. He looked pale and concerned.

“Are you okay?!” they both asked. I nodded my head a bit and sat up. I felt my back. All I felt was cut flesh and warm sticky stuff. Blood.

“My...wings...” I whispered painfully.

“Are you okay?!” they asked again. I stared at the blood on my hands then back at SkyBird and Connor. Tears began to fall from my face.

“MY WINGS!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. I then started screaming and sobbing randomly. I couldn’t control my emotions. I wanted my wings back. Rain started pouring down from the sky.

“Let’s go. I think they’ve had enough for now,” Dr. Xander said with an evil smirk.

We stayed on the rocks for the night and what seemed like forever. The sun started to peak out from the grey clouds. I had stopped crying and screaming. SkyBird, Connor and I all looked exhausted and full of painful memories and emotions.

“Let’s get something to eat,” I whispered hoarsely. They both nodded in agreement as we all slowly rose to our feet. My back still hurt a lot, but I could have cared less.

“Are you okay Hero?” SkyBird asked as we walked to Rite Aid.

I nodded my head and managed a small smile. “I’m okay. Wings were everything to me, but I know time won’t stop for me. The world will continue to spin whether I mope around about it or not. I might as well pick myself up and carry on,” I replied in a husky voice. My voice was sore and scratchy from all the screaming and crying I performed last night.

“No you’re not!” Connor replied. He looked angry. I didn’t blame him. SkyBird was probably fuming about it too. I was still in shock, but I knew that crying about it wasn’t going to change anything.

“I’ll get the food,” I said as I walked into Rite Aid. We had $50 all together. I was only going to use $5 though. I got whatever I could with $5 then walked out. SkyBird and Connor looked like they were talking when I came out. I guessed that they were talking about getting revenge or something like that.

“Oh hey Hero. SkyBird and I have a plan of revenge,” Connor said as we all started walking towards the park in Guilford.

“Lay it on me,” I said with a small smile. I was actually starting to let go the whole my wings were cut off thing. For once I actually felt like I could go home and be a normal human. You know how most humans always want to be different? Well it’s the same thing for non-humans. Non-humans have always secretly wanted to be normal. Ironic isn’t it?

“We go to the facility in Maine. SkyBird and I will distract the men guarding the outside while you go inside and set the children free.

“Sounds like a good idea,” I said. When I say that it means that I’m going to probably do something irrational to get revenge on Dr. Xander for me being wingless.

“So let’s start going,” SkyBird said gently.

“Wait how are we gonna get there by tonight?” Connor replied looking at me.

“I have an idea, but it might get me arrested if we get caught,” I said with a smirk.

“What’s your idea?” SkyBird said with hesitant curiousness.

“You’ll find out,” I grinned. Five minutes later we were all sitting in a car. I jammed the key into the ignition and started the car.

“I knew we shouldn’t have let you drive!” SkyBird screamed as the car started. She had a death grip on the cushioning.

“WOOHOO!” Connor yelled with excitement, “THIS IS SO...COOL!”

“Hold onto your seat belts!” I said to them as I hit the gas. I was so glad a policeman wasn’t nearby or he would’ve pulled us over immediately. I was probably going around seventy miles. I started to get good after about an hour.

“We’re not dead yet,” Connor said jokingly. I rolled my eyes.

“I have to admit Hero. You’re a lot better than Craig will ever be,” SkyBird said with a smile. I flashed a smirk as I drove. I think I’m doing pretty good for a fourteen year old if I do say so myself.

“We’re here!” I called out to my teammates as I hit the brakes. Who ever said you needed to be sixteen or older to drive a car without adult supervision can kiss my...well, you know what. I can drive just fine.

“We all know the plan,” SkyBird said as Connor and her went off to distract. Once the men were well distracted I snuck in through a window. I walked through the hallways and peaked in rooms until I found the children in cages. I walked in and busted open every cage.

“I’m here to rescue you all. My name’s Hero Winged and I’m a non-human,” I said as I broke open the last cage. All the children were hugging and thanking me.

“Thank you,” a girl with lizard skin, and horns said.

“No problem,” I said with a smile as I opened the door, “Now be free.” Everyone went running out the room and out of the facility. It made me feel good. I might not have wings, but that didn’t mean I was human. I would and will always be a non-human. It’s the way life works. Once a non-human, always a non-human. Always.
