-------------------the air was filled with the sweet aroma of cinnamon and sugar as snow gently fell outside the frosted windows.
the kitchen was alive with warmth and light, the golden glow from the christmas tree in the adjacent living room casting a cozy hue across the space.
you stood at the counter, your hands dusted with flour, a playful grin on your face as you surveyed the chaos around you.
"you're a menace, you know that?" felix teased, his soft, melodious voice carrying a hint of laughter.
he was dressed in a festive red sweater adorned with little snowflakes, the sleeves rolled up to reveal his forearms. his blond hair was slightly tousled, a dusting of flour decorating the tips, making him look utterly adorable.
"me?!" you gasped in mock outrage, pointing a flour-covered finger at him. "you're the one who decided to throw powdered sugar at me!"
felix's laugh was warm and infectious. "you had it coming, babe. you were hogging all the cookie cutters."
rolling your eyes, you stuck your tongue out at him, but your heart swelled with affection. it was moments like these that made you fall for him all over again.
the two of you had decided to spend the day baking christmas cookies together, a tradition you wanted to start as a couple.
felix had been all for it, his excitement palpable as he'd helped gather the ingredients earlier that morning.
now, hours later, your kitchen was a delightful mess. flour coated the countertops, sprinkles were scattered like confetti, and an array of cookie shapes lay on baking trays waiting to go into the oven.
"alright, alright," felix said, raising his hands in surrender. "truce? no more sugar wars?"
"truce," you agreed, though you couldn't suppress the mischievous glint in your eye. felix caught it immediately.
"don't even think about it," he warned, his gaze narrowing playfully. but before he could react, you swiped a dollop of frosting onto your finger and smeared it on his cheek.
"hey!" he exclaimed, his voice a mix of shock and amusement. "oh, you're so gonna get it now!"
you let out a squeal as felix lunged toward you, his hands reaching for the bowl of flour on the counter.
laughing uncontrollably, you tried to dart away, but he was quicker. with a triumphant grin, he grabbed a handful of flour and gently tossed it at you, covering your sweater and hair in a fine white layer.
"felix!" you laughed, your sides aching as you tried to glare at him. "you're impossible!"
he was doubled over with laughter, his eyes crinkling in that way that always made your heart flutter. "you started it, love."
you shook your head, unable to stay mad at him. instead, you grabbed a towel and started cleaning up the flour on your face. felix stepped closer, his laughter fading into a soft chuckle as he reached out to brush a strand of flour-coated hair from your face.
"sorry, sweetheart," he murmured, his voice suddenly tender. "you're still the cutest mess I've ever seen."
your cheeks warmed at his words, and you leaned into his touch. "you're lucky I love you," you replied with a mock pout, which only made him grin wider.
"I am," he agreed, his voice sincere. "so, so lucky."
the moment stretched between you, the playful chaos of the kitchen fading into the background as felix leaned down to press a gentle kiss to your forehead. the warmth of his lips lingered, sending a wave of comfort through you.
"alright," he said after a moment, clapping his hands together. "let's get back to work before we burn the next batch."
laughing, you nodded and turned back to the counter. together, the two of you rolled out the dough, using the assortment of festive cookie cutters you'd picked out earlier.
felix insisted on making a few "experimental" shapes, resulting in a lopsided snowman, and what he claimed was a reindeer but looked more like a blob with antlers.
"art is subjective," he said defensively when you teased him, his lips quirking into a smirk. "besides, it's the thought that counts, right?"
"sure, sure," you replied, biting back a laugh. "let's just hope they taste better than they look."
the next hour flew by in a blur of laughter, frosting, and sprinkles. felix had a knack for making even the most mundane tasks fun, his jokes and silly antics keeping a constant smile on your face.
at one point, he started humming christmas carols, his voice effortlessly slipping into harmonies that sent shivers down your spine.
"felix," you said, pausing mid-frosting to listen. "your voice is unreal."
he flushed slightly at the compliment, his ears tinged pink. "thanks, love. but don't get distracted - we've got a masterpiece to create here."
you rolled your eyes, but your heart swelled with affection. it was so typically felix to downplay his talent, even though you knew how much he loved singing.
by the time the last batch of cookies was out of the oven and cooling on the racks, the kitchen looked like a festive war zone.
but the sight of the colourful, decorated cookies made it all worth it. there were stars, trees, snowflakes, and even felix's "abstract" shapes, all adorned with bright icing and a generous amount of sprinkles.
"we did it," felix said, wrapping an arm around your waist as you both admired your handiwork. "teamwork makes the dream work."
"that it does," you agreed, leaning into his side. "though I think the real mvp here is the frosting."
he laughed, his chest vibrating against your shoulder. "fair point. want to taste-test one?"
grinning, you picked up a star-shaped cookie and broke it in half, offering one piece to felix. he took it with a playful bow, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
"to our first christmas cookie adventure," he said, raising his piece like a toast.
"to us," you replied, clinking your cookie piece against his before taking a bite.
the cookie was sweet and buttery, with just the right hint of spice. it wasn't perfect - the edges were a little uneven, and the frosting was smudged in places - but it was the best cookie you'd ever had because you'd made it together.
"this is amazing," felix said around a mouthful of cookie, his eyes wide with delight. "we're basically pros."
you laughed, shaking your head. "sure we are, lixie. sure we are."
as the evening wore on, the two of you cleaned up the kitchen together, stealing kisses and sneaking bites of cookies as you worked.
when the last dish was finally washed and the counters wiped down, felix pulled you into his arms, his eyes shining with love.
"thanks for today, sweetheart," he murmured, his voice soft. "this was perfect."
you wrapped your arms around his neck, gazing up at him with a smile. "it really was. I can't wait to do this again next year."
his grin widened, and he leaned down to press a kiss to your lips, sweet and lingering. "me neither, love. merry christmas."
"merry christmas, felix," you whispered, your heart full to bursting.
as the snow continued to fall outside and the glow of the christmas tree bathed the room in warmth, you knew this was a memory you'd treasure forever.
