the chill of december settled over the town, a whisper of frost lining the edges of the windows and the air thick with the unmistakable scent of pine and cinnamon.

it was christmas eve, and the streets were alive with shimmering lights and festive decorations.

you tugged your scarf tighter around your neck, your gloved hand snugly nestled in hyunjin's as the two of you wandered down the brightly lit avenue.

hyunjin's hand was warm despite the cold, his long fingers curling protectively around yours. his cheeks were rosy from the brisk winter air, his breath visible in soft puffs as he glanced down at you with that signature smile that made your knees weak every time.

"baby," he said softly, his voice almost getting lost in the sound of carolers singing a joyful rendition of silent night on the corner. "are you cold?"

you shook your head, a playful grin tugging at your lips. "not with you keeping me warm."

hyunjin chuckled, the sound deep and sweet, like a melody all its own. "smooth," he teased, pulling you a little closer.

the town square was nothing short of magical. string lights crisscrossed the open space, bathing everything in a soft golden glow.

a massive christmas tree stood at the centre, adorned with ornaments that caught the light and reflected it in dazzling patterns. children ran around, their laughter blending with the soft hum of christmas music playing from hidden speakers.

but for you, the real magic was him. hyunjin, with his soft, dark hair that peeked out from beneath his beanie, his scarf loosely wrapped around his neck, and his impossibly kind eyes that always seemed to find yours no matter what.

"you're staring, angel," he teased, breaking into your thoughts.

you felt your cheeks flush, though you couldn't tell if it was from embarrassment or the biting cold. "maybe I just like looking at you," you shot back, trying to sound confident.

he grinned, his teeth gleaming in the soft light. "lucky for you, I like looking at you, too."

the two of you continued to walk hand in hand, weaving through the crowds until you found a quieter spot on the edge of the square.

there, a small row of snow-dusted benches overlooked a frozen pond where a few couples skated hand in hand. hyunjin guided you to a bench, brushing off the thin layer of snow before motioning for you to sit.

"such a gentleman," you mused, settling down beside him.

"for you, always," he replied, draping an arm around your shoulders and pulling you close.

the air was filled with the sound of distant laughter and the soft tinkling of bells, but for a moment, it felt like the world had faded away, leaving just the two of you. hyunjin looked down at you, his gaze soft but intense.

"do you remember last christmas?" he asked suddenly.

you smiled, nodding. "of course. how could I forget? you tried to build a snowman but ended up face-planting into the snow."

hyunjin groaned, his head falling back dramatically. "I was hoping you'd forgotten about that."

"never," you teased, poking his side. "it was adorable."

"I think you mean embarrassing," he retorted, though the corners of his lips twitched upward.

the two of you sat there for a while, lost in memories and the warmth of each other's presence. the cold air bit at your skin, but hyunjin's arm around you and the way he leaned in close made you forget about the chill.

"come on," he said suddenly, standing and pulling you to your feet.

"where are we going?" you asked, laughing as he led you back toward the main square.

"it's a surprise," he replied, his eyes sparkling mischievously.

you followed him through the crowd until you reached a quieter corner of the square, where a canopy of string lights hung overhead, their soft glow casting a golden hue on the cobblestone below.

the space was empty, save for the two of you, and it felt like you'd stepped into your very own winter fairytale.

hyunjin turned to face you, his hands coming up to cup your cheeks. his touch was warm against your cold skin, and his thumbs brushed over your cheekbones in a way that made your heart flutter.

"I brought you here because..." he trailed off, his lips quirking into a shy smile. "because I wanted to do this right."

your brows knitted together in confusion. "do what right?"

instead of answering, he leaned in slowly, his gaze never leaving yours. his lips were soft against yours, the kiss tender and sweet, filled with all the love and warmth that words could never fully capture.

the world around you disappeared, leaving just the two of you beneath the glowing lights.

when he finally pulled back, his forehead rested against yours, his breath mingling with yours in the cold air. "I love you," he whispered, his voice barely audible.

your heart swelled, and you couldn't help the smile that broke across your face. "I love you too, hyunjinnie."

his grin was radiant, lighting up his face in a way that rivalled even the twinkling lights above. he pulled you into a tight hug, his arms wrapping around you as if he never wanted to let go.

for the rest of the night, the two of you wandered through the town, stopping to admire the decorations and indulging in warm cups of hot chocolate from a nearby vendor.

every so often, hyunjin would steal another kiss, each one just as magical as the last.

by the time you made it back to your apartment, the night had grown quiet, the streets empty save for the occasional car driving by.

hyunjin helped you out of your coat, hanging it neatly by the door before pulling you into another hug.

"thank you for tonight," you said softly, resting your head against his chest.

"thank you for being my favourite part of it," he replied, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.

as you curled up together on the couch, a soft blanket draped over the both of you, you couldn't help but feel like the luckiest person in the world.

christmas was always magical, but with hyunjin by your side, it felt like something out of a dream.

and as the soft glow of your own christmas tree filled the room, you realized that this - being with him, wrapped in his warmth and love - was the best gift you could ever ask for.
