the soft glow of the early december sun spilt through the windows of your shared apartment, casting a golden hue over the floor.

outside, a light layer of snow blanketed the ground, sparkling like tiny diamonds under the morning light.

inside, however, was a scene of organized chaos. boxes of ornaments, strings of tangled lights, and fluffy garlands were scattered across the living room floor, ready to be hung up and adored.

"baby, where did you put the star for the tree?" jeongin's soft, honeyed voice called out from behind a mountain of decorations. he was crouched on the floor, rummaging through a box labelled "tree stuff" in your handwriting, his brows furrowed in concentration.

you leaned over from where you were sitting on the couch, carefully untangling a string of lights. "it should be in there, love. check under the tinsel," you replied, watching him with a fond smile as he pouted slightly.

jeongin pushed aside a bundle of glittering silver tinsel, and his eyes lit up when he uncovered the star. "found it!" he exclaimed, holding it up triumphantly. the gold star caught the sunlight, and for a moment, it looked as if it were glowing.

"good job, my christmas hero," you teased, earning a playful glare from him.

"you're lucky you're cute," he quipped, sticking his tongue out before setting the star aside for later. "now, come help me with these lights before I tie myself into a knot."

laughing, you slid off the couch and joined him on the floor, sitting cross-legged beside him.

together, you worked through the mess of fairy lights, the two of you falling into an easy rhythm. jeongin's fingers brushed against yours occasionally, sending little sparks of warmth up your arm.

"remember last year when we broke three ornaments because someone" -he gave you a pointed look- "decided to have a snowball fight in the living room?"

you gasped, mock-offended. "excuse me! that was entirely your fault. you started it."

"details, details," he said, waving his hand dismissively. "anyway, this year we're aiming for no casualties, got it?"

"yes, sir," you replied, giving him a mock salute.

as you finished untangling the lights, jeongin grabbed one end and began wrapping it around the tree.

he hummed softly under his breath as he worked, the sound making your heart feel as warm and cozy as the festive atmosphere around you.

you watched him with a smile, admiring the way his soft brown hair flopped over his forehead and the way his nose scrunched up in concentration.

"hey, don't just sit there staring at me," he teased, catching you mid-gaze. "help me make this tree sparkle!"

grinning, you joined him, stringing the lights higher while he worked on the lower branches. the two of you laughed and joked the entire time, your shared excitement filling the room.

once the lights were up, you plugged them in, and the tree came to life with a warm, twinkling glow.

"it's already perfect," jeongin said softly, stepping back to admire your handiwork.

"not yet," you replied, holding up the box of ornaments. "it's not christmas without these."

jeongin nodded eagerly and grabbed an ornament from the box. it was a small, glittery snowman that you had bought together during your first christmas as a couple. he carefully hung it on one of the branches, and you followed suit, choosing a shiny red bauble.

as you worked, you couldn't help but steal glances at him. there was something about jeongin during the holidays that made your heart swell. maybe it was the way his eyes sparkled like the lights on the tree, or the way he was so meticulous about where to place each ornament.

"babe," he said suddenly, breaking you out of your thoughts. he held up an ornament shaped like a heart, grinning. "remember this one?"

you smiled, nodding. "of course. we made it together at that holiday craft fair. you got glitter everywhere."

"and you glued your fingers together," he shot back, laughing.

together, you hung the ornament in the centre of the tree, right where it would catch the most light. it was moments like this - small, intimate, and filled with love - that made the holiday season so special.

once all the ornaments were in place, jeongin picked up the star from earlier. "alright, the grand finale," he said, handing it to you. "you do the honours."

"are you sure? you found it, after all."

he gave you a lopsided grin. "yeah, but you're the star of this place, so it's only fitting."

rolling your eyes but secretly loving his cheesiness, you carefully placed the star on top of the tree. jeongin held onto your waist to steady you as you stretched, his touch warm and reassuring. when you stepped back, the two of you stood side by side, admiring your work.

"it's perfect," you said softly, leaning your head against his shoulder.

"it really is," he agreed, wrapping an arm around you. "but you know what's missing?"

you looked up at him curiously. "what?"

jeongin smirked and pulled something out of his pocket. it was a sprig of mistletoe.

"jeongin!" you exclaimed, laughing as he held it above your heads.

"hey, it's tradition," he said innocently, though the mischievous twinkle in his eye betrayed him.

rolling your eyes but smiling all the same, you leaned up on your tiptoes and kissed him softly. his lips were warm and sweet, and for a moment, the world around you disappeared.

when you pulled back, jeongin grinned. "best part of decorating," he said, tucking the mistletoe into the corner of the tree.

the rest of the day was spent adding little touches to the apartment - hanging stockings by the fireplace, draping garlands over the windows, and setting out the candles that smelled like cinnamon and pine. by the time you were done, the entire place looked like a scene from a christmas movie.

as evening fell, the two of you curled up on the couch with mugs of hot chocolate, the tree glowing softly in the background. jeongin pulled a blanket over the both of you and rested his head on your shoulder.

"you know," he murmured, his voice tinged with contentment, "this might be my favourite christmas ever."

you smiled, pressing a kiss to his forehead. "mine too, love."

and as the snow continued to fall outside and the two of you basked in the warmth of each other's company, you couldn't help but feel like the luckiest person in the world.
