ʰᵒᵖᵉ ʸᵒᵘ ˡⁱᵏᵉ ⁱᵗ''^-^felix was mid-conversation with jisung when his phone buzzed on the coffee table. distractedly, he picked it up, expecting a routine text or call. instead, he heard the steady voice of a stranger - a nurse from the hospital - informing him that his best friend had been in a car accident.
his world tilted.
"wait, what?" felix's voice cracked, his face draining of colour. "what hospital? are they... are they okay?" his heart raced as he clutched his phone tighter. the nurse's voice was calm but firm, explaining your critical condition and urging him to come as soon as possible.
he barely remembered grabbing his keys or getting into his car. the drive to the hospital was a blur, his mind spinning with worry and fear. don't leave me. don't you dare leave me, he thought over and over, gripping the steering wheel as though it were the only thing grounding him.
when he arrived, felix nearly ran into the hospital, demanding to know where you were. after what felt like an eternity of navigating sterile white corridors and avoiding pitying looks from nurses, he finally reached your room.
you were unrecognizable at first - bandages covered parts of your face, and wires snaked from your arms to various machines. felix froze in the doorway, his chest tightening painfully. this is my best friend. this is the person who's been with me through everything.
he approached your bedside hesitantly, his breath catching at how fragile you looked. he reached out, his hand trembling as it brushed yours.
"hey, sunshine," he whispered, his voice breaking. "I'm here. it's me. I'm not going anywhere, okay?"
you didn't respond. your chest rose and fell steadily, but your face was still, serene in a way that terrified him. he pulled a chair close and sat, his hands gripping yours like a lifeline.
---
the hours blurred into days. felix stayed by your side, refusing to leave even when the nurses suggested he rest. he ate sporadically, slept only when exhaustion overtook him, and kept one hand on yours at all times.as he watched you sleep one afternoon, his heart twisted painfully. he thought of every laugh you'd shared, every secret you'd entrusted to him, every time you'd been the one person who truly understood him. the thought of losing you brought tears to his eyes.
"I'm so stupid," he muttered under his breath. "I should've told you a long time ago..."
his voice faltered, but the words came spilling out. "I don't know what I'd do without you. you're not just my best friend - you're everything to me."
as if in response, your fingers twitched slightly in his grasp. felix's head snapped up, his eyes wide with hope. "sweetheart? hey, can you hear me?" he leaned forward, searching your face for any sign of consciousness.
your eyelids fluttered, and a weak groan escaped your lips. felix let out a shaky laugh, tears streaming down his face as he squeezed your hand.
"you're awake," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "thank god. I thought-" he cut himself off, shaking his head. "it doesn't matter. you're okay. you're gonna be okay."

over the next few weeks, felix became your rock. he helped you with everything - fetching water, adjusting your pillows, even cracking jokes to lighten the mood when the pain became too much.
