-------------------christmas lights twinkled outside your window, their warm glow reflecting off the snow that blanketed the streets below. inside, the room was a flurry of organized chaos: wrapping paper, ribbons, and boxes were scattered everywhere, and your suitcase lay open on the bed, half-packed. your heart raced with anticipation as you folded the final sweater into the bag.
chan had no idea you were coming.
it had been months since you'd last seen him in person. video calls, text messages, and late-night voice notes had become your lifelines, but they could never replace the warmth of his arms around you, the soft way he whispered your name, or the way his eyes crinkled when he laughed.
you missed him so much it physically ached sometimes. this christmas, though, you were determined to change that.
"alright," you muttered to yourself, zipping up your bag and plopping onto the bed. "operation 'surprise chan' is a go."
⌑⌑⌑
the plan had come together in secret, with a little help from chan's bandmates. you'd coordinated with minho, who promised to make sure chan stayed home for the evening.
"don't worry," minho had said over the phone, his tone laced with amusement. "I'll keep him distracted. he won't suspect a thing."
the idea of seeing chan's reaction fuel you through the long hours of planning.
you'd booked a last-minute flight, packed a carry-on with all the essentials, and now here you were, on christmas eve, boarding a plane to his city. the thought of seeing him again made your chest flutter with excitement.
⌑⌑⌑
the flight felt like an eternity. you spent most of it imagining how chan would react. would he cry? would he laugh?
you knew how much he hated being away from you, especially during the holidays. he'd been apologetic every time you talked about christmas, telling you how guilty he felt for not being able to fly to you.
"baby," he'd said during a recent call, his voice soft and tinged with regret. "I promise I'll make it up to you. next christmas, we'll spend it together. just you and me, okay?"
you'd reassured him then, telling him it was okay, but now, you couldn't wait to see the look on his face when you showed up at his door.
⌑⌑⌑
it was late evening by the time you landed. the city was alive with holiday cheer, and the streets were decorated with garlands and fairy lights.
you could hear the faint sound of carolers singing in the distance as you stepped out of the cab in front of chan's apartment building.
you took a deep breath, clutching the small gift bag in your hand. inside was a carefully chosen present - a custom bracelet with both of your initials engraved on it. it wasn't extravagant, but you knew chan would love it. he always cherished the little things, especially when they came from you.
"alright," you whispered to yourself, adjusting your scarf. "here goes nothing."
⌑⌑⌑
minho had texted you earlier to let you know the coast was clear. chan was home, and as promised, he had no idea you were coming.
your fingers trembled slightly as you knocked on the door, your heart pounding so loudly you were sure he'd hear it from inside.
