Amara went to her weekly therapy session. Not sure how she was gonna feel about it.
“So, how have you improved this week?” Dr Owens asked her, “Are you feeling better? Worse?”
Amara took a breath, “Actually, after I took a breather for a while. Some things have started to get better. For one, Eli and I worked on a little project together and Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang are teamed up now.”
“That's good. What about your father, Jeremy? Have you talked to him?”
“He's not my father.” Amara corrected Dr Owens.
“He's the only father you've ever known.”
“Bullshit!” Amara cursed, “He and Emma adopted me, got a divorce when I was ten, until Emma went to jail because she got caught for meth. Then I moved in with Jeremy who left me for a week or two every month lying to me to go and deal drugs! I was on my own for a long time. So no, Jeremy was never a father to me.”
Amara took a breath and looked at Dr Owens. “If anything Johnny has been more of a father figure than anyone in the world, and he is my biological father. He and Jeremy were always at each other's throats, and then when I saw my birth certificate and the drugs in his filing cabinet it all made sense.”
Dr Owens nodded, “Pardon my language but you've been through one hell of a life. But maybe you should try talking to Jeremy more. With him in rehab, he might have changed. After all, he said he wanted to get better for you.”
Amara scoffed. “He can get better all he wants but I can't guarantee I'll still be waiting for him when he gets back. He’s checked in on me a few times but not since Emma died. I mean, sure he's helped me out before but how do I know if that wasn't the drugs talking?”
“Why don't you just give him a chance and find out for yourself?”
“Because I don't think I can trust anyone anymore.” Amara answered. “Not right now. After everything that has happened, my focus has to be winning the All Valley, especially since we have a deal with Cobra Kai, and I want to get back at Kreese for what he did.”
“To send him a message saying that I am not a prize that needs to be won, and I most certainly am not a pawn in this little operation of his and I never will be again.” Amara said, “He has Tory and Robby now as his want-to-be champions. Not me and Eli.”
Dr Owens nodded her head, “Sounds like you really hate this guy.” Shs spoke, “Now why is that?”
“Because he did a lot of unholy things that I'm going to speak about with open or closed doors.”
“I understand. It's obvious you don't want my help.”
“Not if I'm going to answer your questions all day. I thought therapy was about you giving life advice, not trying to know every little detail about me.”
Dr Owens sighed. “Amara, in order to do my job, I need to know about you. The more I know, the more I can help you. I understand you have trust issues, but you just have to trust the process. For you it's not going to be easy but you will understand it all very soon.”
The clock began to ding, meaning Amara’s time was up. “We'll continue this next week, all right?”
“Yeah, ok.” Amara said, as she grabbed her bag and began to walk out of the office.
“Hey, Amara, try talking to Jeremy. He just wants to be there for you as much as Johnny does.”
Amara sighed as she walked out of the office. “Damn it.” She cursed as she saw students switching classes.
